TAKE TIME TO READ Calendars are due Wednesday, April 3rd!
Scottish Rite: Take Time to Read Program
During Texas Public Schools Month, Masons and elementary schools celebrate and encourage reading by asking students to Take Time to Read every day!
Your child will bring home a Take Time to Read calendar for the month of March. Here's how it works:
-Mark the calendar each day your child reads.
-Turn in the Take Time to Read calendar to the classroom teacher by Wednesday, April 3rd.
-Scottish Rite will bring a prize for students who turned in the completed calendar!
It's that easy! We hope you and your kiddos TAKE TIME TO READ!
Burnet County will be the epicenter of one of the biggest astronomical events in decades when a total eclipse of the sun occurs at about 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2024. To learn more about what a solar eclipse is, a link to a 5 minute video from National Geographic is provided below.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxrLRbkOwKs&t=211s
Looking directly at the Sun without proper eye protection is unsafe EXCEPT during the brief total eclipse phase (“totality”). This happens ONLY within the narrow path of totality. At all other times, it is safe to look directly at the Sun ONLY through special- purpose solar filters, such as “eclipse glasses,” that comply with the transmittance requirements of the ISO 12312-2 international standard. Ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not safe for looking at the Sun.
Burnet CISD will provide every student with two pairs of solar eclipse glasses next week. Additional safety information can be found at the following links:
As a final reminder, Monday, April 8 and Tuesday, April 9 are both student and staff holidays. Classes will resume on Wednesday, April 10.
PreK and Kindergarten Round Up for 2024!
PreK/Kinder Roundup for BCISD will begin on April 8th and run through April 19th. The first 200 to complete the full registration will receive a swag bag of Bulldog goodies on Meet the Teacher Night 2024! Registration is completely online on the BCISD website linked under the Parent and Student page.
The 1st Grade Program is Coming Soon! Details Below!
Leader of the Pack!
Ryatt was selected as a leader this week because he shared tickets (he earned for good choices) with a student who did not have enough tickets to buy the item he wanted.
Shady Grove values student character and this student deserves a shout out for his! Way to go!
Academics + Character = Success
2nd Grade Swim Lessons!
Burnet CISD, in conjunction with the YMCA, is pleased to offer all 2nd grade students a Safety Around Water and Fundamentals of Swimming program. The lessons teach students about safe behavior around the water and will orient students to the aquatic environment to create a sound foundation for water safety skills.
April 2, 3, 4, 10, 11 (Lough, Ochoa, Calhoun, German)
We are asking each student to bring the following items on the
days they are scheduled to attend:
● Swimming Suit (it would be helpful if they wore them under their clothes that morning)
● Towel (please label with students name)
● Bag to carry towel and swimming suit
● Undergarments to put on after swimming
● Large Zip-loc bag to put wet swimsuit in to carry home
● Swimsuit cover / shirt (optional)
If you have questions, please call the front office!

2nd Grade Community Helpers!
Students in 2nd grade practiced their research skills to learn and write about community helpers. Today, they dressed as community helpers!
Book Character March Madness
SGE students have been participating in March Madness by voting daily between popular book characters! And the winner is... Pig the Pug! Thank you, Mrs. Marvin, for coordinating the fun!
Attendance Incentive for the 5th Six Weeks!
The 5th six weeks is a clean slate and brings a new opportunity to earn the 5th six weeks incentive which is BUBBLES and CHALK! Students who have no more than 1 absence OR one tardy earn the incentive!
SGE Attendance Tracking
SGE's ADA for this past week was 95.76%!
ADA stands for Average Daily Attendance and is defined as the total days of student attendance divided by the total days of instruction. "98 IS Great!", so 98% is our goal!
This week makes the 2nd week to lead each of the BCISD campuses in ADA!
Notification of Student Absence
A parent must provide an explanation for any absence within 5 days of the student’s arrival or return to school. The student must submit a note signed by the parent. The campus may accept an email from the parent sent to the school’s attendance clerk, but reserves the right to require a written note. The form below will send an email to SGE's Attendance Clerk and then the campus will determine whether to classify the absence as excused or unexcused.
This information may also be found on the BCISD website:
Viewing Report Cards and Progress Reports
An important piece in the family-school partnership is staying aware of student performance. It is requested that parents view and electronically sign progress reports and report cards. See the directions below, and be sure to get those signatures in! In addition, parents are encouraged to regularly view grades in Skyward.
Be sure to check out our Facebook page for pictures from behind the scenes at SGE! "Shady Grove Elementary School - BCISD"
