LAMBERT
February 2025 Edition

Dear Longhorn Families,
February is a short but busy month in Longhorn Nation. Our Winter sports are headed into playoff season. Our Spring sports are ramping up and underway. Our Fine Arts continue to shine through outstanding performances. And our Career Tech Student Organizations are busy prepping for state competitions. It's a joy to watch our Longhorns pursue all these passions and interests!
Please note that students have a five-day weekend this month (February 14 - 18). We hope our families are able to use this time to take a break, connect with your student(s) (especially those seniors who are quickly approaching graduation), and enjoy some down-time together.
As always, thank you for partnering with us for the success of our students! Hook 'em!
Sincerely,
Amanda Thrower
Principal

LUNCH AND LEARN SAFETY DRILL
In our efforts to always get better at our safety procedures, we have planned for a Code Yellow Lockdown DRILL during Lunch & Learn on Friday, February 7. As you know, L & L is a valued part of our schedule, particularly by our students, who use it to eat lunch, decompress, catch up on work, seek assistance from teachers, socialize...the flexibility it offers is what makes it such a coveted part of our bell schedule. At the same time, it presents its challenges in terms of housing large amounts of students in open areas of the building.
Thus, we are eager to practice safety procedures during this time of day particularly, so that students and staff are aware of protocols in the unlikely event they should be needed. We want to be sure our parents and community are aware that this is a planned DRILL, and not to be alarmed on Friday afternoon.
We will follow-up with additional parent messengers. Additionally, students will be made aware of the drill and the expected procedures during an Advisement lesson on Friday morning.
Thank you for your support as we continue to put student safety at the forefront of all we do.
SCHOOL COUNSELOR WEEK
The first week of February is National School Counselor Week. Our team of counselors at Lambert work tirelessly to serve our Longhorns, supporting students in coping strategies, conflict-resolution, college & career planning, and everything in between. Please encourage your student to share their appreciation by stopping by the counseling suite and/or writing a quick note of thanks. Expressions of gratitude mean so much to our staff.

Updates to the Self-Pay Course Credits
Attention parents of current freshmen and all following graduation cohorts (Class of 2028 and younger)! There are new changes to self-pay course credits that will affect current freshmen and all future FCS high school students, starting in the summer of 2025. Please review this FCS webpage for more information.
Dual Enrollment
- New for this year–Dual Enrollment placeholders will NOT be visible in students’ course requests during the March 3 - 7 viewing window as they have been in the past. These placeholders will only be added to a student’s schedule once the student has had the required Dual Enrollment meeting with their counselor, all Dual Enrollment paperwork has been completed, and the student has been accepted into the college’s Dual Enrollment program.
- Any student planning to Dual Enroll for the 2025-2026 must complete all of the steps on THIS CHECKLIST. If you have questions, please reach out to your counselor. Priority deadline to apply and complete the checklist is March 1st.
MEDALLIONS & MID YEAR REPORTS
- Attention Seniors! If the college you’ve applied to REQUIRES a Midyear Report, please email your Counselor at least 2 weeks before the deadline to submit your request. Midyear reports will not be released until the county finalizes senior grades in late January.
- Seniors may be eligible to earn a medallion and pin for graduation in the following areas: Advanced Academic, Fine Arts, World Language, and/or Career Tech. Interested seniors must complete a Pathway Verification Form available at this link and then submit the completed form to their honor society sponsor no later than Friday, March 28, 2025 at 3:30 pm.
REGISTRATION VIEWING WINDOW
Registration activities for the 25-26 school year closed on January 30th at 4:00 PM. The scheduling office will work during the month of February to process course change requests, IE2 requests, and online course requests. The viewing window to see all updated course requests will be open March 3 - 7. This is not a schedule; these are only updated course requests. Only legitimate errors will be fixed during the viewing window (course input error, missing graduation requirement, etc.).
SUMMER ONLINE REGISTRATION INFORMATION
- Summer Online Registration Information will be posted on Monday, February 3rd at this link. FVA summer registration opens on February 3, 2025 & GAVS summer registration opens on March 1, 2025.
CAR LINE REMINDERS
We are looking at ways to improve the length and flow of our car line and know traffic on Old Atlanta Road is significant during morning drop-off. Please be sure to allow plenty of time in the mornings to ensure your student arrives in time to be IN CLASS by 8:25 A.M.. Additionally, please review our car line procedures and make sure you are pulling ALL THE WAY FORWARD when you reach the front circle.
Mandatory Car Line Rules:
- There will be no student drop-off (or pick-up) in the gym lot. All vehicles must snake through the stadium lot and to the circle at the front of the school for drop-off and pick-up.
- Students must remain in cars until they reach the paved sidewalk leading up to the front of the school. There will be no drop-off in the middle of the line (even if your child is running late).
- Drivers must be fully attentive to traffic directors at all crosswalks. If using your phone, drivers must be hands-free.
- There will be no student drop-off in the gravel or stadium lots.
