Dragon Community Newsletter #12
Denn John Middle School 24-25: October 28
Together! Always!
Dragon Community,
As we continue to nurture a supportive and enriching environment for our students, I encourage you to engage with your child about their school experience on a daily basis. Open communication can significantly impact their academic success and overall well-being. Taking a few moments each day to ask your child about their school day—what they learned and what the highlights were—can reinforce their learning and show that you care. Additionally, regularly checking your child’s grades can provide valuable insight into their progress and areas where they may need support, allowing you to celebrate their achievements and encourage improvement in challenging subjects.
If you have any concerns about your child's progress or behavior, please don’t hesitate to reach out to their teachers via email. We believe in a collaborative approach to education and are here to support both you and your child. I also invite you to consider getting involved in school events or joining the parent-teacher association, as your participation can make a significant difference in our school community and enhance your child’s experience.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child's education. Together, we can help our students thrive!

4. Laptop Student Responsibility
Parents, we need your help! Middle school students are frequently forgetting their laptops and/or chargers at home. In today's world, the laptop is the new form of a textbook and notebook. Without it, the students will be significantly delayed. Please ensure you encourage your students to bring their laptops AND chargers to school daily.
5. Laptop Parent Responsibility
Parents, keep in mind that all students/parents are liable for the laptop. If the laptop is lost or broken, the family is required to pay for these concerns. As an effort to prevent unwanted situations, we strongly encourage parents to purchase the technology insurance. Please see the attached form for more information.
At Home Support
1. Parent Portal Sign Up
The best way to know live data of your student's performance is through the parent portal! Here you can see grades, attendance, discipline referrals, teacher notes, and testing information in live time. For your reference, below you will find the attachment to sign up. I highly recommend this for all parents!
2. Attendance
The truancy process will begin in November. Any student that has 10+ of unexcused absences will receive school interventions. We cannot stress the importance of coming to school. Research shows that students who attend school on a regular end up much more successful.
3. Student IDs
Parents, student IDs are required on campus. I will begin to strictly enforce this in the upcoming week. Please remind your students that they must hold their student ID. If a student lost an ID, then please see a school dean or Ms. Rodriguez to re-issue IDs.
4. Dress Code
The weather is slowly changing. This is a friendly reminder that students must be in dress code. As a reminder, please see the flyer below that outlines our dress code policy.
Athletics
1. Volleyball
We will post our selected volleyball teams this week for boys and girls!
2. Basketball- Open Gym
On Thursday, Oct. 31, Coach Robert Ortiz will host an open gym session in the outdoor courts for interested basketball players. A permission slip is required.
3. Volleyball Meeting
Parents, there will be a volleyball meeting on Thursday, Oct. 31 at 4:30 pm. For those interested, please report to the main office. Once the meeting begins, you will be escorted to the meeting location.
A physical must be on file.
