Empower All People to be Healthy, Lifelong Learners
Kia kaha - do your best * Kia māia - be courageous * Kia manawanui - have a heart
Principal's Message
Kia ora koutou,
On Friday I walked around the school in the middle block and it would have to be the most amazing walkaround I have had in the two and a bit years I've had as a tumuaki at our kura.
Here is what I saw in that 30-minute snapshot:
- Totara - Kapa haka, folk dancing and Samoan sasa being taught to their akonga
- Kowhai - kids engaged talking to each other around number lines, students setting up their High 5 goal setting books, hands-on activities making and creating
- Kauri - excited about setting up, finishing and presenting their Science Fair projects to share with the rest of our akonga in our school then in the afternoon being really proud of finishing and sharing their learning with so many people.
- Rimu - kids showing me on the world map where Samoa is because of their learning, students playing games outside smiling, interacting and helping each other and having fun.
- Playtimes - everyone being active, football with over 25 students of all ages, basketball shooting half court shots and challenging each other, four square,
- Teachers - smiling, facilitating learning and enjoying themselves.
This is the school that I love being at and on that Friday it gave me the snapshot that drives us as leaders to strive towards our vision and mission.

My Trip to Rotokare
On Monday we went to Lake Rotokare on a bus to visit Ash. We saw lots of birds and a lake and some trees. We went to the Bush Classroom and played games. It was fun. I ate my lunch there. I had a yum lunch. There was an electric fence. It was really big and long to keep the predators out and the animals sale and then we got to ride the bus back to school.
Awesome writing Joseph!
Phrase of the week...
Ka pai to mahi = You did good work!

NP Cross Country
This year's NP Primary Schools Cross Country Champs will be held Tuesday 11 September at Peringa Park. School will enter the children and do the online registrations. It is up to parents to take your children if you think they would like to have a go. This week's cross country will be a good indicator of how competitive your child is. They do not need to qualify as such but would need to be able to run just over 2km cross country. More details to follow as we receive them.
BBQ Sausage Sizzle @ The Warehouse Bell Block
Sunday 26 August there is a fundraising sausage sizzle at the Warehouse in Bell Block. Call in to say hello and buy a sausage to help our campers. If you can spare some time to help, please contact Fiona Pearce.
Headlice... are back again
These pesky little critters have been spotted at school again. Please check all the heads in your household and take action if you see any lice or eggs.
Sick Kids?
Please, if your child is unwell, keep them home until they are better. There are some nasty bugs going around as well as the usual coughs, colds and tummy upsets.
If you think your child is 50/50 in the morning, please keep them at home.
Life Education Trust
We are delighted to have Harold and kaiako Michelle Williams here this week and next, working with the whole school in their mobile classroom.
The Junior school has chosen to have a nutrition focus for their learning, looking at how they can make good food choices. This ties in really well with our Sharing the Planet theme as we can learn about choosing foods that don't come in packaging and foods that come from the ground.
The Senior school is focussing on friendships and learning about the skills and attitude needed for building a positive reputation.
On 29 August - Wednesday next week - we would like to invite parents and whanau to come take a look inside the bus. Pop in between 3.00pm and 3.20pm to meet Michelle and see the mobile classroom. Kindy will also be visiting the bus on Wednesday morning - exciting!
