Celebrate Archer Glen!
For the month of March, our newsletter will highlight important aspects of our school community! Each week will celebrate different people or things happening at Archer Glen. We are excited to share with you all of the incredible opportunities that our kids have. First up is….Celebrating Archer Glen….a glimpse into the programs and specials that we offer.
Eagle Zone (Mrs. Russell)
Archer Glen has a special place called the Eagle Zone. The Eagle Zone is a space designed to facilitate social-emotional skill building. Students come individually or in a small group to practice identifying basic emotions in themselves and others, identifying strategies or tools they can use to manage their emotions, and practicing self-regulation activities. Every Wednesday, the Eagle Zone hosts “Visitor Wednesday,” where any student may be signed up for an opportunity to visit the room. Also, as an extension of the Eagle Zone, Kindergarten and 1st grade social groups are taught foundational social skills to help them become successful students and community members.
Music (Ms. Brannan)
The music program at Archer Glen has a goal of making music enjoyable for everyone. We are creating life-long music lovers! While students are playing instruments, singing songs, and playing games, they are growing their love for music, while also building necessary musical skills such as steady beat and pitch recognition. Archer Glen is fortunate enough to have purchased a set of 30 ukuleles this year, thanks to the generosity of the Sherwood Education Foundation. Introducing a new ukulele curriculum is something that shows the progress of the Archer Glen music program.
Archer Glen also has an after school choir program for 4th and 5th grade students. These students meet on Tuesdays after school and get to sing together! They have multiple performances throughout the year to show off new songs that they have learned. Some of our 5th grade choir students had the opportunity to attend an Honor Choir earlier this month, where 100 students from schools in the area got together to make music. This was an amazing opportunity for those students, and they represented Archer Glen well!
Coming up soon are our 3rd, 2nd, and 1st grade Music Programs. These programs will give a glimpse into what a day in music class looks like.
Ms. Brannan loves working with the students at Archer Glen and is excited to continue growing the program.
PE (Mrs. Erickson)
The goal of the Archer Glen PE program is for all students to cultivate a passion for being physically active, while also having an understanding of why it is important to make healthy choices. Mrs. Erickson introduces students to many traditional and alternative activities hoping that they will develop a love of movement. Some Archer Glen favorites this year have been the Winter Olympic Games, Capture the Ball or Frisbee, Zombie Line Tag, and Bowling. We also work a lot on fitness and fitness knowledge. This year students have worked hard on learning pacing while running and we are currently doing a plank challenge. Ask your student to show you their best plank! Throughout the year, students also work on basic sports skills that translate directly to many of the sports and activities students participate in.
STEM (Ms. Phillips)
This year at Archer Glen, students have been collaborating together on a variety of STEM projects. The goal of STEM is to provide students with opportunities to critically think, communicate together, engage in creative problem solving and have fun! Students have continued to build upon their foundation of computer programming skills through a variety of technology applications, participated in lab based science activities and engaged in engineering design tasks. The STEM program's hope is to continue to build students' confidence in their STEM skills, an understanding of how this relates to the world around them and develop a passion for future STEM careers.
Kindergarten Open House
Kindergarten Open House is an event for parents and incoming Kindergarten students to visit the school, hear from staff members, and meet their peers.
Kindergarten Open House
March 7 from 4:00 - 6:00
Archer Glen Elementary
Families should park in the main parking lot and enter through the gym doors (there will be wayfinding signs!). Sessions will start every 25 minutes, starting at 4:00. The last session will start at 5:40. Please arrive 5 to 10 minutes prior to the start of your preferred session.
While waiting for sessions to begin, families will be given a chance to meet representatives from the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC), learn about the on-site after school care option, take a picture in the self-serve photo booth, and do a craft activity together.
Individual Kindergarten Open House sessions may fill up. To guarantee a spot in your preferred session, families have the option of reserving a session by clicking here: Archer Glen Kindergarten Open House Reservations (not required to attend the Kindergarten Open House). One reservation per family - both parents can attend the session using one reservation.
STEM Room Request
The STEM room is in need of empty cereal boxes for a future 5th grade unit. If you have any at home feel free to have your child bring them in and they can be dropped off at the STEM room.
Thank you!
Ms. Phillips
