A Message from Principal Chad May
Dear Barrington Middle School Station Campus Families,
As we settle into our routines, I want to remind everyone to prioritize safety during student pickup. We have many students walking home and crossing streets at the end of the school day and after activities. If your child is a walker, please remind them to use the crosswalks, and we will do the same here. To ensure everyone's safety, please use the designated parking lot or driveway when picking up your child. For their protection, do not ask them to meet you in the street, as this creates unsafe conditions for both students and drivers. Your cooperation is essential in keeping our school community safe. Thank you for your attention to this important matter!
Sincerely,
Principal Chad May
Black History Month Celebration at Barrington Middle School – Station Campus
February is Black History Month, and at Barrington Middle School – Station Campus, we are excited to honor the achievements, contributions, and rich history of Black Americans. Throughout the month, our history classes will engage in special units of study that explore significant moments and figures in Black history. In addition, we will highlight influential Black Americans on our bulletin boards and feature their stories in our daily announcements. This is a time to reflect, learn, and celebrate the impact of Black leaders, innovators, and trailblazers who have helped shape our world. We encourage all students to take part in these activities and deepen their understanding of the vital role Black history plays in our shared story.
Valentine’s Day and Character Strong: Building a Community of Care
This Valentine’s Day, Barrington Middle School – Station Campus is embracing more than just cards and candy hearts—we’re using the holiday to strengthen our community and live out the values of our new social-emotional learning program, Character Strong. As we celebrate our first year with this program, it’s the perfect time to connect the themes of kindness, empathy, and looking out for one another to the spirit of Valentine’s Day.
Character Strong teaches us that small acts of care and compassion can make a big difference in the lives of those around us. This February, we are encouraging students to practice intentional kindness—not just with their friends, but with classmates, teachers, and even those they may not know well. Whether it’s writing a thoughtful note, helping someone in need, or simply offering a friendly smile, these acts of connection build a sense of belonging and community.
Let’s make this Valentine’s Day about more than just hearts and flowers—let’s make it a celebration of connection, kindness, and strength of character!
Increase in Respiratory and Gastrointestinal Illnesses
We are seeing an increase in respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses. Barrington is certainly not alone in this, as schools across the region are seeing the same. While respiratory illnesses are expected this time of year, we are seeing a high number of Flu A & B, as well as Covid-19. We are also seeing large numbers of students with symptoms of Norovirus.
Please keep your students home if they are sick. You can find Barrington 220's sick day guidelines here. Also, encourage good respiratory and hand hygiene. Additional resources can be found here.
Here are a few things we are doing to help mitigate the impact to our building: increase cleaning to high touch surfaces in classrooms and common areas, including water fountains.

Cold Weather Reminder
As cold weather makes its way to our area, I would like to share a reminder of our morning routine at Station Campus. School doors open at 8:25 AM daily. Please note that there is no supervision provided before this time, and with colder temperatures ahead, we want to encourage you to arrive no earlier than that time. As with all matters, we value your help to ensure the safety and well-being of our students.
Attendance Procedures
Barrington 220 values student attendance. For a student to have a successful experience, the student must be present in class. Any absence from school is a missed learning opportunity for your child. Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school—and themselves.
We know that students are absent from school for a number of reasons, from health concerns to transportation challenges. Many people in our schools are prepared to help you if you or your student face challenges in getting to school regularly or on time. Depending on your student’s grade or school, this may include your principal, assistant principal, counselor, teacher, or all of the above. We are always available to assist and support your child in fulfilling our mission of empowering personal excellence in every learner. For more information please click here.
Sign Out Procedures
If you plan to pick up your child up early from school, we ask that you please put in an Absence Request in the Parent Portal on Infinite Campus. When you arrive to pick up your child, please come to the front door with your cell phone. Ms. Jarva or Ms. Alters will buzz you in and you will scan a QR code (located on table near front door) that is linked to a sign-out form that you complete while you wait for your child to come down from class. Please note, only individuals listed on Infinite Campus (IC) will be allowed to pick up your child. If you need assistance with the parent portal, please contact the Infinite Campus Hotline at (847)-842 3580.
Thank you!
Visitor Procedures
In our district’s continued effort to keep our students and staff safe, remember to bring your driver’s license or state ID when you come to visit/volunteer at Station. The reason for this is we run your ID through our sex offender background check system. After your ID is scanned, you will be issued a visitor lanyard and visitor sticker before being admitted into the building. Every D220 school follows these procedures. For the safety of our students, there are no exceptions.
