Block House Creek Update

Dear Block House Creek Elementary School families and staff,

Our families and staff have overcome so much these past two weeks and this entire year. We apologize to our Block House Creek Elementary family for the late notice regarding in-person learning tomorrow.

Due to extensive damage to the school’s air quality system and an uncertain timetable for repairs, Block House Creek ES will not reopen for in-person learning for the rest of the week, Wednesday, Feb. 24 - Friday, Feb. 26. Our teachers will be contacting students as soon as possible tomorrow morning for asynchronous virtual learning opportunities. The focus, as is the case for the entire district, will be on re-establishing relationships and checking in on our students.

A quality airflow system is critical to prevent the spread of COVID-19, according to the Centers of Disease Control (CDC). Given the current health crisis and the needs in a normal year for air circulation to prevent the spread of illness and allergens, we cannot open the school until we have a functional system. We are still gathering information and options for next steps and will communicate more details Friday evening.

The winter storm that crippled Central Texas froze our systems for several days. During the initial assessments, most systems were able to be brought back online. Upon further investigation today, we learned the air quality system will need extensive repairs before students can resume in-person learning.

We know that this is late notice, and apologize for the inconvenience this causes our families, teachers, staff and students who are still dealing with the aftermath of the storm. Please know that:

• We asked our teachers to prioritize connecting with each and every student.

• We empowered teachers to go deeper to reinforce concepts and skills from previous lessons rather than presenting new content.

• When possible, we encouraged teachers to minimize homework and assessment expectations during the week so students and their families can focus on their most basic needs.

Debido a daños en el sistema de calidad del aire, la Escuela Primaria Block House Creek no abrirá para clases presenciales el miércoles 24 de febrero

Respetadas familias y empleados de la Escuela Primaria Block House Creek,

Nuestras familias han enfrentado muchos desafíos las pasadas dos semanas y en este año. Presentamos disculpas a nuestras familias de Block House Creek por el aviso de última hora concerniente a las clases presenciales de mañana.

Debido a un extenso daño en el sistema de calidad de aire de la escuela y sin conocer con precisión el tiempo que demorará la reparación, no abriremos las clases presenciales en Block House Creek por el resto de la semana. Nuestros maestros estarán contactando los estudiantes tan pronto sea posible, para iniciar mañana con aprendizaje virtual asincrónico.

Un flujo en el sistema de calidad de aire es crítico para prevenir la propagación de COVID-19, de acuerdo con los Centros de Control de Enfermedades (CDC). Dada la actual situación de salud y las necesidades de tener un sistema de circulación de aire normal para prevenir la propagación de enfermedades y agentes alergénicos, no podemos abrir la escuela hasta que el sistema sea funcional. Estamos reuniendo información y opciones para los próximos pasos y comunicaremos estos detalles el viernes en la tarde.

La tormenta de invierno que azotó al centro de Texas congeló nuestros sistemas por varios días. Durante las evaluaciones iniciales, la mayoría de los sistemas están trabajando en condiciones normales. Al investigar más hoy, se encontró que el sistema de calidad de aire necesitará reparaciones extensivas antes que los estudiantes y empleados puedan volver a clases en persona a la escuela.

Sabemos que esta noticia es de último minuto y presentamos disculpas por los inconvenientes que presenta para sus familias, maestros, empleados y estudiantes que siguen enfrentando las consecuencias de la tormenta. Por favor sepan que estamos enfocados en:

• Que los maestros tengan como prioridad conectarse con los estudiantes y su bienestar

• Empoderar a los maestros a profundizar y reforzar conceptos y habilidades de lecciones anteriores en vez de enseñar nuevos contenidos.

• En lo posible los maestros estarán minimizando la carga de trabajo y tareas y expectativas de evaluaciones durante la semana, de manera que los estudiantes y familias se enfoquen en sus necesidades más básicas.
