PICTURES AND NEWS
ARTY'S BAKERY
The 4th grade learned about Pop Art and looked specifically at the artist Wayne Thiebaud. He was known for his brightly colored portrayal of desserts, often using complimentary colors to make them pop. Students practiced drawing their own desserts and use oil pastels to create a final piece. They focused on blending colors, light and value, and detail. After the drawings were made they then made model magic sculptures of cupcakes and donuts. All four teams pitched ideas for the name of the bakery, but the name that one during the vote was “Arty’s Bakery”. We hope you enjoy the display. Please enjoy without touching.
Location: 2nd floor art hallway

Your class can help give the robots a vacation. Simply let the STEAM team know which robot you want and when! We will deliver the robots to you-- ready to go!

BLACK HISTORY MONTH
Black History Month is a celebration of Black American history and achievement that takes place each February in the United States. It is also called African American History Month. During Black History Month, many people learn about the accomplishments of individual Black Americans as well as the contributions of Black people to American history. This February, we are excited to celebrate Black voices with books that center around Black lives, Black joy, and Black stories that are sure to resonate far beyond a single month of the year. Join us as we #ShareBlackStories and checkout books from our City School library collection.
TIMELINES FROM BLACK HISTORY
Erased. Ignored. Hidden. Lost. Underappreciated. No longer. Delve into the unique, inspiring, and world-changing history of Black people.
Black leaders, writers, civil rights activists, scientists, and more have influenced, inspired, and changed the societies we live in. This history book’s pages are filled with the stories of these historical giants and their contributions to the world.
LOVING
This is the story of one brave family: Mildred Loving, Richard Perry Loving, and their three children. It is the story of how Mildred and Richard fell in love, and got married in Washington, D.C. But when they moved back to their hometown in Virginia, they were arrested (in dramatic fashion) for violating that state's laws against interracial marriage. The Lovings refused to allow their children to get the message that their parents' love was wrong and so they fought the unfair law, taking their case all the way to the Supreme Court - and won!
