The above painting depicts Saladin Ayyubi and Guy of Lusignan after Battle of Hattin. Guy is surrendering Jerusalem 5 years before the first graduation. This is to say that we've been doing this for a long time! The link will take you to a movie about the event https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0320661/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk
Principal's Corner
Eagles,
This week will be short, and so will this address. We are closing the books on another year and are excited to hold graduate ceremonies for all our students.
GRADUATION!
FUN FACTS!:
Ceremonies for graduating students date from the first universities in Europe in the twelfth century (1185 to be exact) 5 years after the Second Crusade ended. At that time, Latin was the language of scholars. A "universitas" was a guild of masters with a teaching license. "Degree" and "graduate" come from gradus, meaning "step." A typical graduation dress is a gown and hood or hat adapted from the daily dress of university staff in the Middle Ages, which was, in turn, based on the attire worn by medieval clergy.
Gradus!
I love that the term to graduate means we are taking a step. So often, we see graduation as a finality, the end of a thing. The truth is it is only an inevitable step that we are all expected to take in our educational journey. We are supposed to move to the next grade, just as we are supposed to reach graduation from high school. Notice I said graduation! Because what we are looking for is our commencement time. When we commence, we earn a post-secondary degree or certification, join an apprenticeship, join the service, or learn a trade on the job in a career that allows for advancement or entrepreneurship. Commencement is when we start our lives. We put worth behind our names to establish our place in the world and the lives we want to live. Those who carry on with the IB philosophy they learned here will discover how they will improve the world.
Have a great summer, Eagles!
Yours truly and faithfully,
Luis De La Garza

As Kofi Annan wisely stated, "Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope." This insight underscores the importance of literacy as a foundational skill that opens doors to endless opportunities. Our Summer Boost Program is dedicated to building this bridge for our students, providing them with the tools they need to succeed academically and beyond. By nurturing their literacy and math skills in a supportive and engaging environment, we are not only helping them excel in school but also empowering them with the confidence and abilities to achieve their dreams. We are committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to cross this bridge to a brighter future.
