Reminder - PSAT/SAT testing this week
On April 9, grade 9 students will take the PSAT 8/9. All other students will attend classes on their regular schedules. On April 16, grade 10 students will take the PSAT 10 and grade 11 students will take the SAT tests. A grab and go lunch will be available, as will buses after the testing period. All other students will not have school that day.

Ronald McDonald Caremobile visits Leyden
The caremobile will be at West Leyden on Tuesday, April 9 and East Leyden on Wednesday, April 10. Registration is closed but those who have signed up will be notified by the school nurse on the day of the event. Students will receive a pass with an assigned time to report to the Caremobile. If you have any questions please contact your campus nurse for more information. Questions may be directed to the school nurses: West Leyden, Rhonda Kazmierczak, BNS, RN, (847) 451-3130 and East Leyden, Marlene Cuevas, BNS, RN, (847) 451-3084.

All students/families are required to complete enrollment process
Enrollment for the 2024-25 school year is open and required for every student planning to attend East or West Leyden. Parents/Guardians have received a special access code (snapcode) by email and U.S. mail to use in Home Access Center (HAC) to begin the enrollment process. Upon completion of the enrollment process in HAC, an invoice will be generated and school fees can be paid online (through MySchoolBucks).
All incoming freshmen, transfer students, and others who have been asked to submit proof of residency may do so electronically and are required to complete this process prior to enrolling.

6th Annual Leyden Parent University
Leyden Parent University will take place on Saturday, April 20, from 8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. for all Leyden parents and guardians of students in grades 8 - 11. This event is being held at East Leyden and check in will begin at 8:25 a.m. This event is for parents and guardians only, from both East and West, and we kindly ask that children not be in attendance. Lunch will be provided. Space is limited, registration is recommended.
Leyden Parent University’s purpose is to support parents in learning how to help their child find success during and after high school. Parent involvement in their child’s education leads to better student motivation, behavior, grades and future success.
Each year two scholarships are awarded to parents in attendance. This scholarship is applied to their child’s postsecondary plan upon graduation.

Leyden announces Student Summit, a two-day event for 3rd-8th graders
Registration is now open for the 9th Annual Leyden Student Summit, a 2-day event for incoming 3rd-8th graders. Participants rotate to different workshops and get hands-on experience in art, theater, coding, robotics, digital electronics, culinary arts and more fun activities. Breakout sessions are led by Leyden teachers and students who are experts in their designated area. Spots are limited and this event will sell out, so please register today!

Little Eagle Academy Preschool Registration is open
Little Eagle Academy Preschool registration has begun for the 24-25 school year. Open to all 3-5 year olds, Little Eagle Academy is unique in that it is not only run by our professionally trained instructors, but assisted by Leyden students on the education path.
Little Eagle Academy is available at East or West Leyden, Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Attention Seniors - Cap and Gown Pick Up
Seniors can pick up their cap and gowns for graduation during lunch periods on Thursday, April 11, at West and on April 23, at East. Students must present their student ID to pick up their order. Students who still need a cap and gown may place an order online by visiting jostens.com. Please note that students are required to purchase the “Cap and Gown Unit” to participate in the graduation ceremony.
Educator workshop and signing day
Students who are interested in a career in education are invited to attend Leyden’s Educator Signing Day Ceremony and Workshop at West Leyden on Friday, May 10, at 3:30 p.m. in the Eagles Wing.
This event includes a keynote by Briana Morales, 2023 Illinois Teach of the Year, an educator signing ceremony for any student entering a teacher preparation program, and breakout sessions, including Making the Most of Your College Experience, How to Get Hired, and Q&As with Leyden Alumni who are now teachers. Refreshments will be provided.
Participating students will be entered into a scholarship raffle for two $500 scholarships, courtesy of the Mary Sears Children's Academy. Additionally, Leyden is excited to continue our Golden Ticket initiative, which invites successful graduates to come back and teach at our high schools or the elementary school they attended. Leyden students are guaranteed an interview, and if hired full-time, receive a $5,000 signing bonus. All participants must register by Friday, April 26, to attend. Space is limited.

Leyden’s award-winning, bilingual, Teatro Leyden, celebrates 10 years
Leyden’s award-winning, bilingual theatre program, Teatro Leyden, celebrates its anniversary by staging the show that launched the program 10 years ago, La Gringa, on April 25-27, in the West Leyden auditorium.

Social Studies Teacher Dan Hogan awarded Prestigious Fellowship
Leyden Social Studies Teacher Dan Hogan has been awarded the prestigious James Madison Graduate Fellowship. Only one fellowship is given to a social studies teacher in each state. Hogan was contacted by U.S. Congressman Sean Casten who announced him as the Illinois recipient. Hogan will receive $24,000 to be used to earn his Masters degree in American History and Government from Ashland University in Ohio. The fellowship requires the graduate level coursework include a concentration of courses on the history and principles of the United States Constitution.
