For West Limestone: It's storytelling time again! Our 7th and 11th graders will attend on October 23.
Oct. 22-26, 2024
Imagine a crisp fall weekend spent listening to stories of adventure and excitement...a place where memories and magic are captured and spun into tales that make you laugh and cry. Hear stories that tell of a time that used to be, or a time yet to come. Glimpse into the past and live the imaginary. Learn more about your parents, your children, and yourself. Discover all this and more at the 18th Annual Athens Storytelling Festival, in the tent on the Athens State University Campus, next to the Sandridge Student Center.
Veteran's Day Program
Our Veteran's Day Program will be Friday, November 8 at 9am in the new gym.
In order for us to have the trip, we must have a total of 28 travelers. Currently, we only have 6 signed up to travel.
SENIORS: CLASS OF 2025 INFORMATION
VFW Scholarship Deadline October 31
From Brian Beddingfield
My name is Brian Beddingfield. I am the Junior Vice Commander for the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4765 in Athens. The VFW is dedicated to promoting patriotism and investing in our future generation. If you have, or know of, democracy-loving high school students interested in a $35,000 college scholarship or patriotic middle school students interested in winning $5,000, please have them apply for these scholarships. There are two categories – Voice of Democracy (Grades 9-12) and Patriot’s Pen (Grades 6-8). The winner of each category at the local Post level will receive $150 and advance to the District level. District winners will compete at the State level. State winners will compete at the National level. More information, rules of eligibility, and entry forms can be found at https://www.vfw.org/community/youth-and-education/youth-scholarships.
Additionally, the VFW recognizes and honors extraordinary teachers. Each year, the VFW selects elementary, middle, and high school teachers to participate in the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher program. Winners in each of the three categories at the local Post level will receive $150 and advance to the next level. More information, rules of eligibility, and entry forms can be found at https://www.vfw.org/community/youth-and-education/teacher-of-the-year.
The submission deadline for both of these programs is midnight on October 31. Please submit entries to vfwpost4765@gmail.com and Cc s.brian.beddingfield@gmail.com.

TITLE I STATUS: We are a Title I School. Our status as a Title I School is determined by the percentage of students who qualify for free/reduced lunch. Title I Schools are provided federal money based on their rank of the percentage of free/reduced lunches within our school district. This money provides schools with the necessary funds to hire staff to reduce classroom sizes or interventionists who work with students to close achievement gaps. Some schools use the money to purchase software, provide professional development, or provide other instructional materials needed.
Based on last year's free-reduced lunch count, our school will receive about $149,130 which will be used to hire two teachers and two interventionists. Of that amount, $2319 will be used for Parent & Family Engagement. The committee chose to purchase paper that will be used to print i-Ready reports, progress reports, report cards, and other school-related activities to share with parents.
These funds are highly beneficial to our school, so please complete the free/reduced lunch application today at https://www.myschoolapps.com/Home/PickDistrict. The link is found on our webpage www.westlimestonehigh.org and on the District webpage www.lcsk12.org. Choose "Alabama" and then choose "Limestone County BOE" for our school district to start the application.
