Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Kind, Be Safe
April 25th
Mt. Peak Family,
I’m thrilled to share some exciting news—Mt. Peak has been named a 2024-2025 Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase School for the second year in a row! This prestigious recognition celebrates schools that go above and beyond in creating a culture where students feel safe, connected, and inspired to learn. I couldn’t be prouder of our students and staff for the heart, effort, and intentional relationships that made this possible.
As part of our continued CKH journey, we’re asking families to take a quick moment to complete the CKH Family Survey. Your voice helps us reflect on how we’re building a strong school culture together. Our goal is 200 responses—we’re currently at 15, so we’d love your help reaching that mark!
In other great news, STAAR testing is going strong! Our 3rd and 4th graders have completed both their Math and ELAR tests, and 5th grade has just Science left on Tuesday. After that, we’ll shift to EOY Amplify testing for K–2 and MAP Growth assessments for 2nd–5th. These help us measure how much progress students have made across the year—and we’re excited to see their growth!
Have a great weekend!
Adam Henke

Field Day Sign
Are you ready for an awesome field day with your kids on May 9th?!
We want to make this year’s Field Day the best that it can be! Each class will rotate through a variety of stations that will include some type of sporting fun: inflatables, team relays, individual races, and competitions!
Scan the QR code or click the picture on the right to volunteer!
3rd -5th will have a different lunch time. (3rd 10:40, 4th 11:00 and 5th 11:20). These students will have lunch by the middle playground under the trees!
There were many wonderful auditions for next fall's news crew! I appreciate all those that submitted their video applications. 18 were chosen and there will be auditions again in December for the Spring 2026 news crew.
Thursday, students in Ms. McVey’s fifth-grade math classes reviewed Financial Literacy standards in preparation for the upcoming Math STAAR Test. To support their learning, they used the Quizlet platform to study key terminology related to the lesson. Terms such as the different types of taxes, gross income, and net income were reviewed using digital flashcards and matching activities, allowing students to study independently at their own pace.
Following the individual study session, students participated in a live interactive Quizlet game, which provided an engaging way to assess their understanding. The lesson concluded with a team-based competition focused on the financial vocabulary. The students remained actively engaged and enjoyed the review process while reinforcing important concepts.
Mrs. Handlin’s class: Solving problems and showing work—hallway edition! When the classroom’s too small for their math brains, we take it to the walls!
3rd Grade Artists are learning about the Element of Art - Form; inspired by the story book “Ribbit”.
"Ribbit!" is a children's picture book by Rodrigo Folgueira that follows a group of frogs who are surprised to find a pig in their pond. The pig, who says "Ribbit!", sparks confusion and questions among the frogs. The story explores themes of friendship, differences, and the importance of being welcoming to others, even if they seem different.
Third graders are learning how to mold clay into a 3-Dimensional ponds using different clay techniques, such as; pinch pots, scoring, slipping and smoothing.
Can’t wait to see the finished product!!
Please join us in expressing our gratitude to our exceptional administrative assistants. Without a doubt, we are fortunate to have the best. They work diligently to ensure our campus operates seamlessly. Click the picture and leave a comment for our amazing staff!
First grade had an unforgettable adventure at the Fort Worth Zoo! From up-close animal encounters to exploring the exhibits, it was a day full of fun, learning, and wild memories.
Next Week(s) At the Peak!
MISD ,
Saturday, May 3rd is School Lunch Hero Day, but here at Midlothian ISD, we’ll be celebrating a little early—on Friday, May 2nd!
This special day is all about recognizing the dedication and hard work of our amazing school nutrition professionals who serve healthy, delicious, and nutritious meals to our students every day.
We’d love your help in making this day extra special!
DOGS - Dads of Great Students
We are excited to share an opportunity to get involved with the school through our Father Figure volunteer group, DOGS. This group steps in to help whenever the need arises, whether it's assisting with the drop-off car line on Friday mornings or giving our staff a break during particularly cold or rainy weather. The commitment is flexible—you don't need to be there every Friday, but when you can participate, the kids and staff truly appreciate it.
We'll also have various opportunities throughout the school year to help out with setting up for school events. It's a great way to make a positive impact, and the kids love seeing the dads and father figures involved.
If you'd like to join, please click [this link] to sign up.
Background Checks
While completing a background check isn't mandatory, it's always a good idea to have one on file in case an event comes up that requires volunteer help inside the school. You can complete the Volunteer Background Check here.
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to email Mr. Henke at adam.henke@midlothianisd.org.
We would love to see a strong group of men involved at Mt. Peak, so please consider signing up!
We would love you to follow along during the week for updates of what is happening at Mt Peak. You can follow along on Facebook There is an imposter site. So, please follow the one with a picture of the school in the header.
Staff Shout Outs!
The Mt Peak mission statement is the Mt Peak family will make a positive difference in the lives we touch by putting children first and challenging everyone to reach their full potential.

Thank you!
Mrs. Benter Shoutout!
I would like to send a special thanks to Ms. Benter and highlight her in any way possible. She made Math Pantaloon so much fun and the kids learned a lot. Thanks to her and her time helping these kids grow! They are super lucky to have her. Thank you and wish us luck at the tournament this weekend! Nad’a McMahan
Letter from the Counselor
Counselor's Corner
What a fun week at the Peak as our PTO online auction has opened, our students worked very hard on state testing, second graders have participated in their puppy adoptions day, and we ended the week with fun egg activities! We are inching closer and closer to May which means that summer break is right around the corner. Thank you for your support and help to finish out this year strong!

Capturing Kids Hearts
April's Leadworthy Character Trait is Perseverance
What is Perseverance?
Perseverance is the willingness and ability to keep going when things are tough. People who persevere show steadfastness and give the extra effort needed to do something despite how hard it is or how long it takes to reach the goal.
Why focus on Perseverance?
- Perseverance encourages positive self-talk and thinking. When faced with difficult tasks, perseverance helps students reframe with positive thoughts, such as: "I'm not good at this YET!"
- Perseverance develops empathy. Students gain a better understanding of who they are and develop more empathy and compassion for others who may struggle to reach a goal.
- Perseverance sparks personal growth. Pushing through complex tasks builds resilience and helps students discover how capable they are.
Perseverance in Action:
- Share stories and challenging experiences. Be vulnerable and share personal experiences when you have struggled with a task or concept and had to work hard to push through.
- Praise effort and process, not intelligence or performance. Affirm students for the process they used to tackle tasks and point out how their abilities grow through their own hard work.
- Give your students the chance to struggle. Struggle builds self-confidence, independence, and perseverance. Resist the urge to intervene immediately and give students time to figure it out.

HB 3 required parent notice on practicing safe firearm storage
All Texas school districts are required by law to distribute information to parents and guardians about the safe storage of firearms. House Bill 3, Section 19 added Section 37.222 to the Texas Education Code, which requires the Texas School Safety Center, in collaboration with the Texas Department of Public Safety, to provide information and resources to school districts for the purpose of disseminating the information to parents. The Texas DPS launched a Keep ‘Em Safe Texas website that provides safety resources, materials, and tips for practicing safe gun storage to prevent accidents and keep children safe. Remember, a gun should be stored unloaded in a safe or locked container, with ammunition stored elsewhere. You can learn more and find additional resources from the Texas Department of Public Safety at https://safegunstoragetexas.com.
