From the Principal's Desk
Dear Dueitt Middle School Families,
We hope this message finds you well as we approach an important week on campus. On Tuesday, December 10th, and Thursday, December 12th, all students will participate in MAP testing. This is a critical step in preparing our students for academic success, and we will simulate a STAAR testing environment to help them become familiar with the process.
To ensure a smooth testing experience, our campus will operate in shutdown mode with a modified schedule on these days. It is vital that all students are present and on time. Parents, we kindly ask that you avoid scheduling medical or dental appointments on these dates so your child does not miss this important opportunity.
Attendance Matters!
If your child is absent due to a medical or dental appointment, please ensure they return with a medical note. Students with a note will have their absence marked as excused. However, please note that students with 10 or more unexcused absences in any class are required to attend credit recovery after school to maintain eligibility for promotion to the next grade.
Credit Recovery Information:
- When: Monday through Friday, 4:40 PM - 6:00 PM
- Transportation: Bus transportation is provided.

When to Stay Home
Dear Spring ISD Families,
As we prioritize the health and safety of all our students, we want to remind you of the importance of keeping your child at home if they are feeling unwell. To help you navigate when to keep your child at home and when it's safe to return to school, we’ve attached two flyers (in English and Spanish) with specific scenarios and guidelines.
Please review these materials carefully to ensure a safe and healthy school environment for everyone. Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our schools safe.

Dr. Shamethia Dillard, Associate Principal and 6th Grade House Principal
Welcome to #Eagle Country! I am Dr. Shamethia Dillard, your Associate and 6th Grade Principal. This will be my 4th year at Dueitt Middle School. I am a native Houstonian, a mother of three, and am starting my 22nd year of education. I have served in various leadership roles at the district level and as an administrator in elementary and middle schools. When I am not serving our Eagle community, I am either cheering LOUDLY at my kid's track meets and basketball tournaments or you can catch me hiking, dancing, and karaoke (although singing is not my talent)! I remain excited about seeing our teachers and students achieve their goals. My philosophy of education is: "All students can learn, as long as they have a teacher willing to teach them how they BEST learn."
With that said, let's make this a great year to SOAR Towards EXCELLENCE!

Mrs.Tammy Arvie, 7th Grade Assistant Principal
My name is Tammy Arvie. This is my 3rd year at Dueitt. I am the 7th grade Assistant Principal. It is an awesome honor was born and raised in Lake Charles, Louisiana. My family and I moved to Houston, TX in 1998. I have been married to my wonderful husband, Marcus Arvie for 32 years. We have two beautiful daughters, Celeste and Celina, who are both educators and two wonderful son-n-loves, Dominque and TJ. We are also blessed and proud to have two adorable grandchildren, Laila and Kalen, each will welcome a new sibling this year.
My educational background consists of over 20 years in education, which includes my service as a teacher, interventionist and counselor. I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology from McNeese State University and my Post-Baccalaureate Degree in Education from the University of Houston-Downtown. My Masters of Arts Degree in Counseling was received at the University of St. Thomas and my Administrator’s Certification from Region IV-Inspire Texas. In addition, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A), under the supervision of Bernice Mckenzie. LPC coursework was completed at Prairie View A & M University. As a lifelong learner, I am passionate about education and supporting others to fulfill their goals. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, shopping, going to the movies, strolling in the park, trying new recipes and restaurants, serving at my church, and spending time with my family and friends.

Regina Smith, 8th grade Assistant Principal
Ms. Regina Smith serves as an Assistant Principal at Dueitt Middle School for the 2024-2025 school year. Ms. Smith is a proud alumna of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). She has a masters degree in English Literature from Nova Southeastern University and Principal Leadership certification from UTA Arlington. Ms. Smith started her career in Leon and Duval counties as an ELAR teacher and RTI safety net facilitator.
After several years of service in Florida, she moved to the DFW metroplex. In Fort Worth ISD, she served as an ELAR Department Chair, Team Leader, ESL Lead, and as an MTSS/RTI Specialist. Throughout her career, she has spearheaded corporate donations and grants for college exposure to underserved areas, facilitated community partnerships via the GEAR-UP grant, organized housing and necessities collections for homeless stakeholders, and participated in on campus and district AVID site team committees.
Ms. Smith believes in the Rita Pierson philosophy, “Every child deserves a champion, an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be.”

Spring ISD is a Drug and Tobacco Free Zone
Keeping tobacco off campus means students do not see their friends or family members using tobacco, which helps make tobacco use seem less socially acceptable. They also have less access to tobacco products. This means they will be less likely to try and then become addicted to nicotine. • Provide A Safe Environment For Students And Staff: Breathing secondhand smoke can make others sick. It can trigger an asthma attack or worsen breathing problems. Staff and visitors smoking on campus or at school events place others at risk. We want to keep our schools healthy for everyone. Comply With Federal And State Legislation And Regulations: Federal and state law prohibit smoking in elementary, middle, and secondary schools. Tobacco-free schools provide positive role modeling for students. Schools are a place where children develop lifelong behaviors – and we are committed to ensuring smoking or chewing tobacco and/or using an e-cigarette is not one of these behaviors. The use of vapes on e-cigarettes in vehicles in the parking lot or car rider line is strictly prohibited as it is considered to be on campus. .
