Mini Town Hall Meetings: 3rd Grade
Third graders attended "mini" Town Hall Meetings on Thursday with Ms. Dioguardi and Ms. Fuentes to discuss ways they can better understand how a friend might be feeling during a particular social event or interaction. The grade was split in half for two separate meetings in order to participate in more hands-on and specific activities that may be difficult for us to do at our full grade Town Hall Meetings.
They practiced asking questions which they are learning in Second Step in class and created a recipe for a good friend. They shared their answers with classmates at each table.
Learning Spotlight: 4th Grade
Fourth graders are getting ready for the first ever F.E. Bellows theatre performance! All of the classes have been highly engaged and loving learning how to dance like they do on Broadway!
Not only does this experience provide them with additional time for exercise and movement, it also promotes and enhances their listening skills and ability to follow multi-step directions!
Lets not forget how it fosters their creativity, too!
4th Grade Theatre Residency - Sponsored by the PTSA
All families are encouraged to attend this theatrical extravaganza on Friday, February 7 at 1:55 pm.
- Seats are limited to three (3) per family (not each student)
- There may be standing room only so please be kind to those in need of a seat
- The event is being recorded for those who cannot attend and will be shared once it is made available.

Timeline for the FEB Science Expo & Important Links/Forms
Monday, January 13- Friday, February 7 : Our Rye Neck scientists will be reviewing the submitted forms and the school will be sending them to families as soon as the scientists are done.
Ongoing from January- March: Students conducting experiments should start as soon as they receive feedback from the scientists. Please remember that the scientists are providing you with information to help strengthen your child’s project for Tri-County consideration. If your child is doing a project/experiment for “fun”, they will not receive feedback from the scientists and are encouraged to do as many projects/experiments as they’d like, but then to only create a tri-board (more details on January 9) for the one they’d like to share with the school community.
Monday, March 17: All Science Fair projects and related materials due to school (all grades)
Tuesday, March 18: Third Grade in-person Science Expo (during the school day)
Wednesday, March 19: Fourth & Fifth grade in-person Science Expo (during the school day)
Wednesday, March 19: The FEB Science Expo for Families.
Third graders and their families will be invited from 5:30-6:00 pm to the FEB Auditorium to view each other’s projects. We will also announce the qualifying Tri-County projects at this time.
Fourth & Fifth graders and their families will be invited from 6:05- 6:25 pm to the FEB Auditorium to view each other’s projects. We will also announce the qualifying Tri-County projects at this time.
If you have any questions about the FEB 4th & 5th Grade Science Fair/Expo, please feel free to reach out to me directly. If you have questions about a project/experiment idea, you can email our Rye Neck scientists:
Marc Karell- mamaromarc@gmail.com
Kathleen Last Barney- klastbar@gmail.com
Participating in the Science Fair/Expo is a great way to engage students in research and learning about things that interest them. Science fair projects/experiments teach students to problem solve, write and present information in a clear way and provide them with the opportunity to work with their peers from other classes.
Here are some websites to help you and your child explore topics together and view some experiment and project ideas.
The documents below are designed to help families navigate the Science Expo process as well as think about how to come up with ideas for a great science experiment.
Informational Sheet # 1: Thinking About a Topic for the Science Expo
Informational Sheet #2: Using the Scientific Method.
These links below are how you can submit your science project ideas to our Partners in Science for feedback. This is also how we know how many projects to expect.
