Message from Superintendent Dr. Latrice N. Mumin
Greetings, CUSD Families!
As we step into another exciting two weeks, I want to recognize the many observances that hold special meaning for our community.
To everyone observing Ramadan, I extend warm wishes for a peaceful month of reflection, gratitude, and renewal. This week also marks Read Across America Week, celebrating literacy and the joy of reading. In recognition of the week, many of our schools are hosting activities and spirit week themed celebrations.
And it’s Women’s History Month, a time to honor the achievements of women past and present-- local, national, and international.
I’m also proud to share that CUSD has been selected as one of only three awardees statewide for Pennsylvania’s Preschool Early Intervention Family Ambassador Pilot Program. Through this initiative, Family Ambassadors will strengthen connections between families and schools, ensuring parents have the support and resources needed for a successful transition into Kindergarten.
This is a significant step toward enhancing early childhood education and family engagement in our district.
This edition of Clipper Connection contains important updates, especially for our families who have seniors, and exciting highlights of events that have recently passed. I hope you enjoy it.

Girls Track Team Medals at PTFCA Indoor State Championships
Congratulations to Coach Shake Allen, Fenny Terry, and the Lady Clippers Indoor Track Team for an outstanding performance at the PTFCA Indoor State Championships!
Every athlete medaled, and despite having only five competitors, the team secured an impressive 2nd place finish.
A special shoutout to Damira Allen for taking 1st place in the 60-meter hurdles and setting a new Delco record! Way to represent, Lady Clippers
CUSD Celebrates SEL Day
This past Monday, the district was proud to celebrate Global SEL Day, with schools hosting special Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) activities throughout the week. Students participated in kindness initiatives, SEL poetry writing, and words of encouragement to promote self-awareness and empathy.
They also took part in meditation exercises to support mindfulness and emotional well-being.
One of the highlights was a visit from renowned storyteller Mrs. Thembi Palmer, who led an interactive session focused at Main Street on grief, healing, and emotional expression. As an author, teaching artist, and curriculum developer, she used storytelling to help students navigate emotions in a meaningful way.
Beyond this, schools hosted additional activities to foster kindness and appreciation, reinforcing the importance of SEL in daily learning.
We still have two more days left to promote SEL in our communities for SEL Week and we hope you consider joining in on the fun.
March SEL Calendar
To help continue the SEL fun, we have a new calendar for March full of SEL: Promoting Positive Actions daily activities.
Check it out and let’s keep it going.
Career day at CUSA
This past Friday, more than a dozen professionals, entrepreneurs, and small business owners stopped by CUSA for Career Day to share their experiences and spark new ideas in our scholars!
They heard from firefighters from the Chester Bureau of Fire Department, local business owners, entrepreneurs, social media influencers, and many working professionals.
A huge thank you to all the guest speakers who took time out of their day to invest in our students' futures! A special appreciation to Mr. Whitehead and the CUSA staff for organizing the event.
Black History Programs District-wide
As Black History Month and our district-wide celebrations have mostly come to a close, I am proud to spotlight the incredible performances that took place throughout our schools.
Students showcased music, dance, poetry, and powerful tributes, celebrating Black history, culture, and achievements with energy and pride.
These performances, hosted by both our schools and after-school programs, brought together families and the community for moments of reflection, learning, and joy. From vibrant musical numbers to historical reenactments, each event honored the past while inspiring the future.
You can check out Clipper TV at the end of the week for videos and now view our social media pages for photos that capture the celebrations!
