A Message From the Superintendent
November 13, 2024
Dear Fremont Community,
We are writing to inform you about an incident that started on one of our middle school buses this afternoon that reinforces the importance of our “See Something, Say Something” commitment.
It was brought to our attention that a middle school student made a threat of violence to our school community. We are extremely grateful to the multiple students who immediately contacted school administrators to alert them of this incident. This swift action allowed our threat assessment team to put the proper procedures into action, including contacting local law enforcement. We also learned that families contacted local law enforcement directly. These actions are greatly appreciated. Any parents/guardians of the students who contacted the school were directly called before this communication was sent.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office investigated the threat over the past few hours and determined that it is safe to hold school. The Sheriff’s Office has made personal contact with the student and the student’s family. The student in question will not be returning to school while the investigation is ongoing. Further results of the investigation will be shared by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. While we are limited in the details we can share, please know incidents of this nature are treated with utmost seriousness. Threats of violence have no place in our school community.
Our “See Something, Say Something” commitment is designed to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in our school community. We also have a “Text-a-Tip” program for our middle school students, providing access to a live mental health counselor within minutes of an initial text. Younger students have access to the FSD79 Student Tip Line to report concerns.
Our commitment to maintaining a safe, secure, and healthy school environment grows stronger when we work together, as evidenced in this most recent situation. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me or your school principal. Thank you for partnering with us to build a culture of safety in our Fremont community.
Sincerely,
Trisha Kocanda
