Message from the Head of School
Dear Parents/Carers
Firstly, thank you for the many messages we received this week to help celebrate 'thank a teacher day!'. These have been passed on to the relevant staff members and I know it means alot to receive your kind words! We are all incredibly lucky to have such an amazing team who have worked particularly hard over the last two weeks - especially during our OfSTED visit. As Ms Lockey mentioned last week, we very much look forward to sharing the report with you as soon as it has been officially published. As luck would have it, this week is low level week for the teaching staff and I am sure we can all agree they certainly deserve it!
The green area, which includes the allotment beds, polytunnel and pond, have had a 'make-over' thanks to the School Food Matters team. They were here on Tuesday painting sheds, clearing beds and developing our pond area. This is such a wonderful resource which we will aim to use more in the future. A huge thank you to Ms Bienge and Miss Goddard for organising this.
Our annual sport day is scheduled for Monday. I am sure the children will have a brilliant time and at present the weather looks promising. Below you will find the sports day letter which was recently sent to all parents. Please do have another read of this prior to the event as it contains all the timings and expectations.
We launched our new parent communication system last week and you should have by now received your welcome email from Arbor, logged in, and downloaded the Arbor app. We will start sending out communication from the school via Arbor instead of using ParentHub, so do contact the school office if you are having difficulty setting up your Arbor account. We do not want parents & carers to miss any important communication.
I hope you all enjoy your weekend.
Mr Jon James

HJS Achievers
Three talented swimmers, Brooke, River and Daisy attended the London Schools Swimming Association gala in Dulwich last week. This was for swimmers across London who participated in the heats and were the quickest qualifiers. I am pleased to report that Brooke won the 50m freestyle event and got silver in the 50m breaststroke. River and Daisy swam very well, but unfortunately did not medal. All girls were a credit to the school with their sportsmanship and behaviour.
HJS Music Achievers
Well done to Orchestra, Windband and our soloists for a fantastic performance at our Summer Concert last Wednesday evening. Fresh off the back of the inspection, the children performed with such professionalism and I am so proud of the hard work the children have put in for the concert. Thank you to parents and guardians who came along to watch and for all of the support at home.
We are always looking for new players for our orchestra. If you play an instrument at approximately Grade 1 level and would be interested in joining us please let us know. Unfortunately we do not have any spaces for piano at this time.
Aspirations Week
The purpose of the week was to provide all pupils with a chance to reflect on their own goals, and in doing so, raise their awareness of future opportunities linked to jobs and careers. Part of the week involved presentations from parents / carers about their careers and also pre-recorded presentations from the website ‘Primary Futures’. Thank you to all those who volunteered to support this week by coming into school and sharing their stories.
Year 3 News
This week, 3G and 3S visited the Synagogue in Richmond. The children represented the school beautifully and their behaviour was exceptional. The children learnt all about Judaism and enjoyed the experience.
This week, year 3 shared their recent writing outcomes with the year 4 classes. Inspired by Greek myths, the year 3 children wrote their very own Greek quest myths, with the year 4s as their audience. The children loved sharing their work with the year group and showed a lot of pride with their written outcomes. The year 3 teachers were incredibly impressed with every child!
Year 6 News
