Following Our Compass August 2024
Dear Families
This year, we are introducing a new reading curriculum and continued growth of our extracurricular activities to support the diverse needs of our students. We are committed to providing a well-rounded education that inspires curiosity and a love for learning. Additionally, we are focusing on enhancing our community engagement efforts and look forward to collaborating with you to ensure that each student achieves their full potential.
We understand that the transition back to school can be both exciting and challenging. Our goal is to create a supportive and inclusive atmosphere where every student feels valued and motivated. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or concerns. Open communication between families and school staff is crucial for a successful year, and we encourage you to stay engaged and informed.
Attendance Matters: Each day is important for all students to be on campus, students begin class at 8:00 am. We serve breakfast to all students, please help us by reminding them to stop by the service lines to grab the most important meal of the day.
AZ Compass Elementary families a friendly reminder that all K-6 students dress code requires that the student is wearing a collard polo, color of their choice and closed toe shoes that cover their heel. Slides and sandals are not allowed for our elementary students. (Full Dress Code below)
The past school year we felt the impact of cell phones within our classrooms more than ever, despite the policy stating that phones will be put away during instructional time. Instructional time is of paramount importance within our school. With this said, cell phones will not be allowed during class, nor will teachers be allowing students to have earbuds in during instructional times. Students may check their cell phones during passing periods and lunch times only. Should there be a matter to which you need to speak with your child immediately, we highly recommend calling the front office and we will pull them from class to speak to you. We ask that all parents of 7th-12th graders to review this policy with their student(s)
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Together, we can make this school year a memorable and impactful experience for all of our students. We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events and are eager to work together in making this year a great success.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lay, Campus Principal

Transportation:
Our bussing will transport your child to The Lab (255 W Warner Rd., Chandler, AZ 85225) for 3:00pm-4:30pm workout sessions every day. Parents, you will be responsible for picking your child up after workouts at The Lab – we will not transport them back to the school, or any other location. We ask that each family does not arrive any later than 10 minutes following their completion time – as this best allows our coaches to leave and spend time with their loved ones.
Crossing Warner at ANY Point:
Crossing the street is considered jaywalking, and it is against the law in the area in which many of our students choose to cross. We cannot stress this enough as an administration - if you are unable to pick up your child by 4:40pm from The Lab, please reach out to Tyler Olsen, our Athletic Director, to design a plan for your child as promptly as possible. We are unable to require our coaches to stay past 4:40pm, and we cannot allow for your child to cross the street. Furthermore, if your child dismisses this requirement, they will be withheld from workouts for the remainder of the quarter. We will stand on a 0-tolerance policy regarding jaywalking across the street, and if they absolutely need to cross, they may walk to the nearest crosswalk and legally do so. We appreciate your understanding, as your child’s safety is our main, and only concern. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this, please reach out today to Tyler Olsen.
Parents Attending Workouts/Practice:
At AZ Compass we truly have a basketball Family – one in which our coaches, school, and parents dearly care about the progress of our program and their child. We love the atmosphere of support that we have here, but we need to work together to provide a safe platform for our coaches to coach, and our players to play on a daily basis. With that, we are asking that our parents please do not attend practices or workouts throughout the year – as we begin to let one parent in, we must stand true to letting in all of our parents. We want to ensure our parents feel a part of the program, and we will do so by keeping you up to date with your child, but at this time, daily practices will remain closed. If you are picking your child up, you may step into the gym 5-10 minutes before practice ends to let your child know you are present. We will work together to get your child safely to your vehicle following practice. We appreciate your understanding.
Grade Checks Begin:
As the first few weeks of our academic year are coming to a close, our teachers are beginning to post grades into Infinite Campus. If you have not been able to setup a parent account to track your child’s grades, please reach out Taylor, our receptionist, and a member of our Dragon Family will guide you. With grades beginning to come out, we will begin our first grade checks this week, holding each of our student-athletes accountable to passing all of their courses. If your child is not passing each course, they will be withheld from workouts for at least 1 week. Your child may get their grade up right away, but will not be eligible to participate in our workouts until the following week when grade checks are done again. We love the game of basketball, but we understand that it is our role in your child’s life to prioritize academics and use basketball as a tool to assist them in their journey of becoming future graduates. Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to seeing great grades this Friday!
Mandatory Study Hall: Basketball Class, Middle School, High School | 3:30pm – 4:30pm, Every Wednesday (AZCP, Room 37) – Parents, please pickup your child at AZ Compass no later than 4:40pm. This will begin this week.
