EMCSD partners with Say Something Reporting System to Support Students
Dear EMCSD Community,
We are proud to announce that our district was selected to receive access to the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System by Sandy Hook Promise. At EMCSD, we believe everyone deserves to feel safe and supported while they are on our school campuses every day. To ensure the safety of our students, staff, and families, we want to be proactive with programs that equip each of us to take meaningful action to protect our schools.
We want to empower our students to recognize the signs of internal struggle in themselves and their peers and give them the tools to help each other with the assistance of trained and caring adults. Many conversations are taking place on social media, therefore it is critical that we teach our students to look out for one another in text, video, and photos and act quickly to help a fellow student.
That is why we are happy to introduce the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System to the El Monte City School District. The Say Something Anonymous Reporting System is a research-based violence prevention program offered by Sandy Hook Promise, a national nonprofit organization. The Say Something Anonymous Reporting System, trains youth and adults how to:
Recognize warning signs -- especially within social media -- of individuals who may be in crisis
Encourage them to tell a trusted adult directly or via the anonymous reporting system.
We will be training our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at all of our schools on when and how to use the anonymous reporting system between the dates of September 1st to September 7th.
We are excited to join the more than 5,000 schools nationwide that have launched this program! Click here for more information about what the anonymous reporting system is, how students can use it, and why we are adopting it in our schools.
EMCSD in the News: EMCSD Receives $10 million grant to Fund Norwood Elementary Project
Los Angeles County Safe Clean Water Program has awarded $9.8 million in funding for the Norwood Elementary Greening Project in El Monte, California. This transformative project, led in partnership with El Monte City School District (EMCSD), Trust for Public Land (TPL) and Active San Gabriel Valley (ActiveSGV), aims to create a multiple-benefit 6-acre park that will provide recreational opportunities and access to green space for children and families in the community while demonstrating how you can manage stormwater in an environmentally friendly way that delivers added recreation benefits to the community.
EMCSD also plans to expand access to early childhood education, working directly with families to ensure their children are given equitable access to the educational structure needed to succeed. “El Monte City School District has always put community at the forefront of all of our efforts,” said Dr. Maribel Garcia, EMCSD Superintendent. “Our families deserve safe spaces where their children can play, explore, and socialize in their local community. We are proud to join Trust for Public Land and ActiveSGV in an effort to enact transformative changes to how school facilities can evolve with the community’s needs.” Click button to read more on Mid-Valley News website.
