Message from the Principal
Wildcat Families,
One of our biggest priorities here at CFT is working to make sure that each of our students leaves our school as a proficient reader. With this in mind, we use a data-based system to provide students with reading instruction intended to match an appropriate rate and level regardless of student ability. Today, I’d like to outline what our reading program looks like in our multi-tiered system of support as we just kicked off our full program this week.
Over the past few weeks, students have taken multiple assessments to help us learn more about their reading abilities related to all things reading from phonics to fluency to vocabulary to comprehension. With this information, we work to identify students whose skills are at or near grade level as well as those who are above and below grade level. There are then multiple ways we use our federally funded Title 1 support staff to help all of our students.
One way we support students is by providing each of our teachers with 25 minutes of additional reading support staff during our daily 90-minute reading block. Having additional staff in the classroom allows teachers to differentiate and teach students in a small group setting, targeting skill development for students in small groups with others who have similar skills.
The second way we serve students with emerging reading skills is through Reading Club. In Reading Club, students spend 30 minutes per day working with our reading support staff in a small group outside the classroom using research-based curriculum that again targets specific skill areas identified in our assessments.
We regularly assess students in Reading Club to ensure they’re making adequate progress and adjust our programming as necessary to help them learn and move closer to grade level. As grade level teams, we meet every 6 weeks to review this information to make and adjust plans both for classroom instruction and Reading Club. If students aren’t making progress after multiple conversations and instructional adjustments, we then do individual problem solving which often involves consultation with families so that we can broaden our conversation and further individualize our reading support.
We’re extremely grateful that we have the opportunity to offer such and extensive reading support program and I’m thankful to have such talented teachers and reading staff that work so hard to help all of our students become proficient readers.
If you have questions about our reading program or want to learn more about our multi-tiered systems of support, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Sincerely,
Tim, Principal
Mensaje del Director
Familias Wildcat,
Atentamente,
Tim, Director

Your feeder schools are excited to invite you to our Hispanic Heritage Celebration in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15 to October 15, 2024. The celebration will be held at Fowler Middle School on October 16, 2024, from 5 PM to 8 PM, we're aiming to make this year’s event even more memorable than the last!
Last year’s celebration was filled with incredible dishes shared by our families and generous contributions from local Tigard businesses. It was a true community effort, with collaboration from CFT, MWW, MET, FMS and THS, We're hoping to build on that success this year. We would love to see more families share a dish from their culture, though it’s completely optional.
As we continue to organize this event, we’re welcoming the support of parents and local businesses. Your participation—whether it’s through contributing a dish, donating, or simply attending—will help make this celebration a wonderful reflection of our diverse community.
Thank you in advance for being part of this special event. Your feeder schools can’t wait to celebrate with you all!
