I couldn't be prouder of our school - staff, students and whanau - in our return to schooling from Monday 18 May. 2020 has been an unprecedented year!

Find the Moments of Magic

On Friday I was fortunate enough to hear David Galbraith speak in our New Plymouth Principals Association Hui. There were a couple of things that really resonated with me as a leader and as a person that I want to share with you:

• We choose what we see - do we see the Moments of Magic or do we see the Moments of Rubbish in our day?
• Be Optimistic
• Great questions: What needs to happen in your day for you to go to bed satisfied or happy? What are your success parameters?

Over the break I challenge you to look for the beauty, the magic in your day. Let's get our kids to look for those moments of beauty, kindness and magic and share them.

Let's shape our environment every day by looking for the beauty.

Kia ora, I’m Jeosh, I am Kakapo whanau leader as of 2020.

During lockdown near the start of term 2 the school has been doing online schooling for the majority for all year groups.

We have also had our holiday mixed into it, exiting lockdown might have been hard for some but all in all everybody got used to it.

The holidays are coming as it is the end of term 2 and they will be different to the last holidays. Here are some ideas of what you can do in the holidays.

1. Spend time with your family.

2. Find something that can keep you concentrated.

3. Give love and affection to those you love.

4. Look out for your well being.

Hello, I’m Chayce Wilson, 2020 Tui Whanau Leader.

We are nearing the end of Term 2, that means the Holidays are coming.

Recently, we’ve been learning about kindness at school and that doesn’t mean that we should stop when we get home.

I’ve got some top tips for things that you can do at home to be kind.

1. Saying ‘Good morning (or) Good afternoon’.

2. Giving compliments to relatives.

3. Making breakfast for you and your family.

4. Making your Parent(s) hot drinks in the mornings.

5. Helping out with chores.

These will be in Week 2 of Term 3, after school on Thursday 30 July and all day on Friday 31 July and are for all students, except the newest of our new entrants.

Bookings are made online through School Interviews. (Event code is jbpqc)

Book a time to meet with your child's Kaitiaki or Homeroom Teacher and if you would also like to meet with any specialist teacher (eg, Design Technology (Mrs Wigley), Maths (Mrs Paterson) or Literacy (Mrs Den-McKay) Specialist teacher) you can book a time to meet with them on the same day.)

Our Teachers will meet with you and your child to share and reflect on their learning, wellbeing, progress, achievements and goals you have for your child for the rest of this school year.

Don't forget: The Friday will not be a normal school day - only those with conferences attend, and you only come for your conference, then go home again.

Thank you Methanex!

The equipment that Methanex have kindly donated will be used in our new Design Technology Hub.

Students in year 7 and 8 will be able to use this IT gear whilst using Minecraft Education. We are looking at designing our school in Minecraft so that it can be used by people via our website, as a way of introducing them to our school and grounds.

Students will also be using this equipment for online designing and graphic design. We will use the computers and laptops in conjunction with the Microsoft Micro:Bits for coding and programming.

As our intermediate students gain more knowledge and confidence through their learning, they will then be able to go and peer teach the younger students in our school.

Breanna Mehaney-Johnston from Kauri 1 wanted to share with us some thoughts on environmental issues that we face today...

Our Environmental issues:

One of the environmental issues is rubbish. We are leaving too much rubbish around and our animals are taking the hurt getting tied up in nets and plastic on their body it is so sad if you go on the this website you will get all our animals in danger with rubbish.

These will be coming home with students today (unless we have been advised to keep them in the office, in which case they are here to collect now.)

Kowhai have been working really hard on making kites. Well done Kowhai for showing our school values in doing your best in your learning - Kia Kaha!

We had unicorns and pandas, dinosaurs, cows, cats, bears... even Chewbaccas! Our Level Onesie Day was great fun.

You never know what jobs you might be asked to help out with on Office Duty - that's why we need volunteers who have initiative and enthusiasm. This week Olivia was helping Mr Quince put together kit set TV stands. Great Job Olivia!

Although we are only just half way through 2020, we are already starting to plan for 2021...

Now that we have an enrolment zone, we have to do this even earlier! So we are asking for your help:

If you have a pre-schooler turning 5 in 2020 or 2021, please use the online enrolment form to make sure they are pre-enrolled. This is particularly important if you live out of zone and have a younger child you wish to start at Puketapu School.

We have been very lucky to have been gifted some lovely, warm jackets, courtesy of ASB and KidsCan. Barb from the ASB in New Plymouth will be coming along to school tomorrow to hand some of these out and the lucky recipients will bring them home tomorrow.

We would like to give a big shout out to Noah Keith who showed amazing courage today during a rugby game. It was an excellent demonstration of Kia Maia on the field... and in the ambulance! We wish you a speedy recovery Noah.
