Bill Landry - Principal
From the Principal
We are looking forward to seeing students and their families at Arts and Crafts Night tomorrow. Doors will open at 5:00pm. Feel free to enter at either the front door or the gym door at the covered area. Maps will be available to show you where each activity is being held. From 6:00pm to 6:30pm pizza and salad will be served in the gym. We also have ten items we will be giving away in our raffle.
Our Core Essentials character trait for this month is Cooperation. Throughout this month, our librarians will be teaching students how they can work with others to be good citizens. Students that are demonstrating Cooperation during the month of March will be nominated by their teacher and recognized at the end of the month during our recognition assembly. Attached you will find the Core Essentials family activity guide for Cooperation in both English and Spanish. The guide contains activities that help families learn about Cooperation. I encourage you to take a look.
Dean Corner
Thanks to everyone who is working to make morning drop-off more efficient. More students are learning to be ready for a quick exit. Please continue to have students wait to exit until the vehicle is safely stopped at the sidewalk rather than in the parking lot or where there is bark. Also, please pull as far forward as possible to allow more cars to fit in the drop-off area.
For afternoon pick-up, you may have noticed we are waiting an extra minute to increase the number of vehicles in a row that are ready to leave at the same time. We will continue to do this, then dismiss row-by-row starting with the lane closest to the curb. Please unite with your student and return to your vehicle quickly to prevent blocking the cars behind you. Thanks for your help in making this process move as efficiently and safely as possible.

Girls on the Run Program
We will be starting a Girls on the Run team this Spring here at Cougar Creek. Girls on the Run is a national program that inspires individuals of all abilities to discover, build, and grow their self-confidence. Together, they experience a sense of belonging and connection as a team. Volunteer coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development, including managing emotions, fostering friendships, and expressing empathy. At the end of the season, the team completes a Community Impact Project and a 5K together, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment and sets a confident mindset into motion. Registration is open to all Cougar Creek girls who are in 3rd-5th grade. Practices well be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:10-4:40 and begin the week of April 14. There will also be a celebratory 5K run on Sunday, June 8. Registration is $235. If your student receives reduced lunch the registration cost is $100, and if your student receives free lunch the registration cost is $25. Registration for Girls on the Run is now open here. If you have any questions about this program, including financial barriers or needing running shoes for your student, please contact our school counselor Bailey Richardson at brichardson@lwsd.wednet.edu
Coaches Needed!
We are also looking for Girls on the Run coaches who are willing to volunteer their time with this program. All coaches will need to attend a training on either March 15, March 22 or March 26. Practice begins the week of April 14, and will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:10-4:40 at Cougar Creek. The season will end with a celebratory 5K on June 8. You do not need to be a runner to coach! Any adult who would like to make a positive impact is welcome! If you are interested in coaching, please contact our school counselor, Bailey Richardson (brichardson@lwsd.wednet.edu).

Nurse Corner
The dentist is coming to Cougar Creek on April 24th. Sign up forms have been sent home or will be going home soon. Please return them as soon as possible if you are interested in having your child seen as it can take some time for the company to get approval from your insurance company. Not everyone that turns in an application is seen. The company, Big Smiles, will contact you if your child has been approved to be seen.
Big Smiles does exams, cleanings and X-rays. If tooth work needs to be done, they usually do that on a follow up visit.
Big Smiles contact information:
1-855-481-8639
Please remember to have extra clothes in your child’s backpack for them to change into! The health room does not have enough clothes for all the students to change. Also, the nurse does not have time to call home to ask for a change of clothes.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Sincerely,
Nurse Michelle
