Spring Break
Principal's Message
Dear Families,
I wanted to sincerely thank you for your generosity and donations to our local Grafton Food Pantry. We filled up 18 huge boxes with food, hygiene, and cleaning supplies. They were so grateful to receive this, as this can be a slow time for donations.
As we head into Spring Break, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for your ongoing support and partnership. Our students have been working hard, and this break is well-deserved!
I hope your week is filled with laughter, adventure, and relaxation. Whether you're traveling or enjoying time at home, I encourage everyone to take a break, recharge, and return ready for a strong finish to the school year.
We look forward to welcoming our students back on Monday, March 31st, refreshed and ready to learn!
Wishing you a safe and joyful Spring Break!
Mrs. Surjan
Principal
Upcoming IAR Window
District 158 will administer the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) assessment between April 7 and April 18. Students in grades 3-8 will participate in these assessments in English Language Arts and Math.
To promote your child’s best performance, we ask that you:
Make sure that your child attends school and arrives on time on the days of testing
Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep the night before testing
Provide a healthy breakfast on the mornings of testing
Remind your child to ask the teacher questions if he/she does not understand the test directions
Let your child know that you have confidence in his/her ability to do his/her best
Advise your child not to worry about the test—just to do the best he/she can
Provide a healthy snack on the days that your child will be testing
The District expects to receive score reports in the fall. Please contact your child’s teacher or building administrator if you have any questions about these tests.
IAR Notification:
Student Placement Form
2025-2026 School Year
It is the time of year when the District 158 Elementary Schools begin to gather and organize information for classroom placements for the next school year. The following is the language in the student handbook that addresses student placement in District 158.
STUDENT PLACEMENT:
“Student placement is a function of building administration. Teachers work together with administration to place students in classrooms. Parents may provide written comments or information pertaining to their child’s learning needs by May 1st."
Please do not submit specific teacher names. We ask that learning characteristics of the child be the main focus of your request. Teachers do move grade levels, buildings, and districts so the characteristics are much more helpful. The final placement is at the discretion of building administration.
Tech Reminders
Please review:
We are in Spring testing season. Here is some helpful guidance:
-ALL students require headphones.
-Encourage your student to charge their Chromebook each night as part of their routine.
-Locate the Chromebook charger.
Spring Picture Pricing for K-5 Students
The district was recently made aware of some confusion among parents regarding the pricing for Spring pictures for K-5 students. After communicating with the vendor, Empire Photography, about this, we learned that incorrect package pricing had been uploaded to their system. Empire has apologized for the mistake, immediately corrected the pricing, and initiated refunds for anyone who had purchased photos under the incorrect pricing structure.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to your school or contact Lorie Woods at lwoods@district158.org for assistance.
Upcoming Spirit Days
