Dear St. Luke Families,
As we continue our Lenten journey we are focusing on Prayer, Fasting, Almsgiving through acts of kindness. Whether it’s our classmates, our teachers, staff in the building, our hot lunch parents, visitors and community members we look at how we can simply smile at someone to show kindness.
We welcomed this week to St. Luke Reckie Lloyd who celebrated Black History Month with students through fun, interactive drumming and dancing sessions. We also welcomed into the Grade 1 room Ms. Amanda Flach who is our new student teacher from the University of Alberta.
The Grade 6 girls participated in the Choices conference hosted by the U of A. This Science, Engineering, & Technology virtual conference was offered only for Grade 6 girls to encourage them to pursue careers in STEM. Students participated today in a brief introduction, exciting demonstrations, and hands-on activities led by amazing role models, and were involved in a design challenge!
St. Luke will be hosting a Digital Wellbeing information session for parents and caregivers on March 11 to learn how to help your child ages 9 - 14 years with the social and technological pressures they face in the world today. There is more information in this SMORE and a registration link to sign-up. This is a free course offered by Strathcona County. Please consider joining us for this great opportunity.
Early Literacy Invention is going strong as staff continue to work with all students to ensure that they are all working at the appropriate literacy level. Phonetic awareness is such an important concept for our early learners and our students in Grades 1 to 3 are learning the lifelong skills they need to become efficient readers and writers.
So many amazing things are happening at St. Luke! "Nothing great is ever achieved without much enduring." St. Catherine of Siena
Have a wonderful weekend. We look forward to next week and more exciting learning!
