Moving Mountains in a Major Way.......
Dear All-Star Families,
I hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable Thanksgiving with your family. As we return from the break, the next two weeks will be a critical time for our students as we prepare for the Middle of the Year (MOY) MAP Assessments.
These assessments are essential in measuring your child’s progress and growth since the Beginning of the Year (BOY) Assessments/MAP in August. The results will help us understand how much your child has learned and identify areas where additional support may be needed. MOY will be December 9-13, 2024, however we will be preparing instructionally this week.
To ensure your child’s success, I kindly ask for your support with the following:
Attendance and Punctuality
- It is very important that all students are present and on time every day. Each instructional minute is valuable as we prepare for the assessments.
Appointments
- If your child has a doctor or dentist appointment, please schedule it for the late afternoon. This will ensure they have the time and focus needed for maximum learning during the school day.
Encouragement and Rest
- Help your child be well-rested and ready to learn each day. A good night’s sleep and a positive mindset make a big difference in their performance.
We appreciate your partnership in making sure your child is fully prepared and supported during this important time. Thank you for your continued commitment to your child’s education and success.

A Few Reminders:

We are excited to share wonderful resources with you to support your child’s learning journey. As part of our commitment to providing the best educational tools, every student at Major Elementary now has a personal login that can be used to access a variety of engaging math and reading applications. Your child can login to these resources at home on a personal device. Please see information below.
Here’s how you can help your child get started:
Login Information: Your child’s unique username and password have been created for them. The username for each student will be the last name initial, first name initial, student ID. Students should know their ID number. If they do not know it, you may access it from your parent account in Aeries. The passwords are universal by class or grade level and have been shared with students. A list of them has been provided on the back of this letter.
How to Access: Simply go to myspringisd.org. Log into the student portal using the student’s login information. Once in the student portal, access the “Instructional” folder. The applications will be located in that folder.
Applications Available:
iReady to support skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and problem-solving.
Amira to improve vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency.
How to Use: Your child can use the apps at any time to practice what they are learning in class, with fun and engaging activities that adjust to their individual learning pace. We are asking that students spend 30 minutes per week on Amira and 30 minutes per week on iReady at home.
IF YOUR CHILD IS A BUS RIDER, THEY MUST WEAR AN ID BADGE/ BUS TAG EVERYDAY TO RIDE THE BUS. THEY WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO RIDE WITHOUT A SMART TAG.
We will be accepting student council applications for the 2024-2025 school year beginning November 11, 2024. Student Council is open to students in third, fourth, and fifth grade. The student council will help with school spirit activities, promote involvement in community service projects, and assist with other projects at school. Applications will be handed out beginning November 11, 2024 and will be due on December 6, 2024. Parent permission is required. 21st CCLC @Major ES Invitation to join 21st CCLC @Major ES
The 21st CCLC program operates Monday through Friday, from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Scholars receive dinner, homework assistance, tutoring in Math and Reading, and enrichment classes. Applications are available at the front office or the forms can be emailed to you (Rphillip@Springisd.org) Please consider having your child enroll for this great learning opportunity.

Due to safety purposes and to ensure all scholars are safe, Major will be a Cell Phone Free Zone during instructional time. Scholars will not be allowed to have technology (cell phones) out and visible on campus. Scholars’ cell phones will remain with the teacher in a locked cabinet and will be returned at the end of the school day. In need of an emergency, you can always call the school at 281-891-8870. We are a “NO ZONE” campus.
Students are not able to check out of school at 2:45 p.m. or later due to safety and dismissal transitions. The daily start time will begin at 8:05 A.M. and conclude at 3:25 P.M.
For safety purposes, students may not be on campus until 7:45 a.m. or after 3:50 p.m. unless they are with a teacher. Breakfast is served at 7:45 a.m. Like last year, the bus loop pick up and drop off pattern will be along the back of the building and car riders will be dropped off at the front of the building through the car rider line in the morning and the opposite afterschool. Please remember that car riders can’t be dropped off in the parking lot or on the street (scholars must remain in the car). Students are considered tardy after 8:05 a.m. and parents are considered late after 3:50 p.m. Please remember dismissal begins at 3:25 p.m.

Students must be in dress code on Monday-Thursday and on Friday’s may wear a Major spirit t-shirt and jeans with no holes if they are not in their spirit shirt they must be in standardized dress code.

Students may not have rolling backpacks on campus
All students must wear their student ID badge daily once they receive it. A fee will be charged $3.00 for a replacement ID badge.
Remember our goal for scholar attendance is 95% or higher. Attendance will be very important.
Cell phones or earbuds are not allowed during the school day or instructional time. Students will turn in their cell phone to their teacher upon entering the classroom, they will be locked in a cabinet and returned at the end of the day. If a student is found with a cell phone, the first time is a warning and the second time the fee is $15 and the phone will need to be picked up from district.
Foul language and sagging is unacceptable and consequences will be issued. Please discuss appropriate and inappropriate language with your scholars.
Parents we ask that you are respectful at all times while on campus.
Parents if you are interested in volunteering on the campus, please ensure that you go online to register by using the VIP form on the district’s website. We would love you to volunteer and join our PTO.
As a reminder, please submit all student notes for absences to Ms. Beltran, attendance clerk (dbeltran@springisd.org). Remember our goal for scholar attendance is 95% or higher. Attendance is very important.
There is zero tolerance for students fighting on campus and on the bus. Bus transportation is a privilege.
