Special Called Board Meeting this Thursday
I want to make you aware of a few updates that will assist in the fulfilment of our School New Normal Initiative. A Special Called Board Meeting is being held on Thursday for our board members to discuss a number of different items. Revisions to the 2020-2021 budget, board policy and school calendar are included in those items. If you attend, be sure to wear a face covering. I want to thank our school board members for their service to our district and their display of cohesiveness over these last several weeks. These are challenging times for educational leaders due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our board members are assisting in leading the way.

Student Safety Conversations
My day usually starts early. Very early (3AM early). So I can’t call my 7AM meeting last Wednesday at the Madison County Sheriff’s Office an early start. It was, however, a productive start. Deputy Superintendent Dr. Ricky Catlett and I toured the Sheriff’s office, which was recently renovated and sits in what was previously West Middle School. Dr. Catlett spent several moments reminiscing as he was principal at West Middle over a decade ago. Once the walk down memory lane was finished, we discussed school safety with Sheriff Mehr and Lt. Finney. Few things are as inspiring as a community working together. Thank you, Sheriff Mehr, for the productive conversation – and for my customized coffee mug. #UnitedWeStand #SafetyFirst
Sheriff Mehr (center) and Lt. Finney (right) listened as Dr. Catlett reminisced about him time at West Middle School.
What a surprise! Sheriff Mehr provided us with a customized coffee mug after our tour and conversation around student safety! Way too cool.
