Media Center/Readers are Leaders
READERS ARE LEADERS
: Tonight, February 28th is The Planetary Parade! We have a treat for sky-gazers: a parade of seven planets across the night sky, including Mercury, Uranus and Neptune alongside typically bright planets such as Mars, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn. The best way to see the parade is with binoculars. However, you can see them with the naked eye, too. The southwestern horizon, soon after sunset and into twilight, is the best time to watch. The planets will be in the southern half of the sky, Toward the southwest is where Saturn and Mercury are going to be, and then toward the southeast is where Mars and Jupiter will be, and then Neptune, Venus and Uranus will be in between.
Your students’ teachers will be collecting Superintendent Remarkable Readers Awards papers in mid-April. More information on that will be forthcoming. The Scholastic Book Fair is also on the horizon, arriving in mid-April, too.
4th & 5th graders are having fun developing Cause and Effect ideas from popular Nursery Rhymes! After they create their stories, we share.
Readers are Leaders is happy to share a lot of great news. Kindergarten finished up a Snowman Challenge and earned a Magical Brag Tag. Miss Amanda’s recipients.
The Media Center has a table out front with a variety of activities that change over time. Students enjoy a visit before lunch, on their way into school in the morning, or as a reward when classwork is done. Here you see an intense checkers game in action!
Did you know that your students can create different artwork when they finish a book? Usually, students will take a short test on the computer, but other times they can do a “One Pager,” draw a picture, or talk with Dr. Cash about the book?
