April 5, 2024
Dear Parents/Guardians of 5th grade students,
Each year the students in grade 5 throughout the city of Quincy participate in a program titled Growth and Development. As stated in the Quincy Public School’s Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook, this program is part of the curriculum for grade 5. The program covers personal hygiene, puberty, physical fitness, nutrition, and emotional changes. The emphasis will be on encouraging and promoting healthy behaviors.
The students are separated into groups for the program and will be taught by our school nurse, Ms. Torraco and our health teacher, Mr. Lorenzano. Material is presented in a professional manner that respects the privacy of each student.
The program is one 50 minute session that will be held on 2 separate days in order to accommodate the student groups, scheduled for May 23rd and May 28th. If you have any questions about the program, please feel free to contact Ms. Torraco at 617-984-6605, kathleentorraco@quincypublicschools.com or Mr. Lorenzano at 617-984-6600, michaellorenzano@quincypublicschools.com.

ImPACT Testing for Grade 8 Students
All Grade 8 students will be taking the ImPACT Test in their Health Class before the conclusion of the school year. This baseline will provide valuable information for doctors to have on record in the event that a student incurs any type of head injury. Also, students/athletes at the high school level are required to complete this testing in order to participate in sports at Quincy High School and North Quincy High School. The test will be administered on the students’ chromebooks and will take approximately 25 minutes to complete. Students are not allowed to leave the room or take any breaks during the test. Chromebooks need to be fully charged on the day of testing.
