A MESSAGE FROM CYMS
Hello CYMS Families,

As Thanksgiving approaches, we want to express our gratitude for our students, families, and the incredible CYMS community. We're extremely thankful for all you do to make our school a special place.
Reminders:
- Tomorrow, 11/26, is a half day for students.
- It’s also the day of our long-awaited CYMS Spelling Bee! Parents of students who qualified are invited to attend in person at 8:15am, and a live stream link will be sent via email tomorrow morning for those who would like to watch from home.
- There will be no school from 11/27 - 12/2.
- Any 8th-grade student who wishes to apply to York County School of Technology for 9th grade must do so before Friday, December 6th, 2024.

CELEBRATING OUR VETERANS
Mrs. Snouffer’s class created cards for our veterans! 🇺🇸 While learning about Veterans Day, the group created thank you cards for the service members, present and past, who work here in the Central York School District. Each card was delivered in a patriotic goodie bag with pumpkin bread.
AEVIDUM CLUB MEMBERS LEND A HAND
CYMS Aevidum members got the chance to help serve food and clean dishes in the cafeteria last week. We appreciate what the cafeteria staff does for our building every day!
AMERICAN EDUCATION SPIRIT WEEK: MATCHING DAY!
We celebrated all educators last week during American Education Week. A special thank you to everyone who makes our school such a wonderful place! Tuesday was Matching Day, and it was a blast!

FUN FRIDAY DECEMBER 6TH
We’re excited to invite all students to our Fun Friday Winter Wonderland on Friday, December 6th, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM! This special event is a great opportunity for students to enjoy an afternoon of fun and connection with their peers.
Activities Include:

A permission slip and a $4 entrance fee are due by Thursday, December 5th.

ANNUAL PANTHER PANTRY FOOD DRIVE IS HERE!
ITS THAT TIME OF YEAR! The Student Council is hosting its annual Panther Pantry Food Drive from November 20th - December 13th. Students will compete by team, with the top 3 teams earning special prizes. Check out the Food Drive poster for more information on collection dates, wanted items, and possible points. We look forward to stocking our Panther Pantry shelves for the holidays!
TUNE IN TO THE CYMS SPELLING BEE TOMORROW, 11/26!
The Scripps National Spelling Bee is a prestigious annual competition held in Washington D.C., and this year, the champion will take home a $50,000 cash prize! To compete at the national level, students must first qualify through school and state spelling bees.
The qualifiers have been chosen for the CYMS Spelling Bee! Students who qualify will be excused from classes on the day of the CYMS Bee to compete for a chance to advance to the state competition. From there, they could have the opportunity to move on to the national stage and compete for the $50,000 prize!
Parents of students who qualified for the CYMS Spelling Bee are welcome to join us in the auditorium on the morning of November 26th. The Bee will begin at approximately 8:15 AM.
A link to the live stream will be sent to all CYMS families on the morning of the Bee for those who wish to watch from home!
YORK COUNTY SCHOOL OF TECHNOLOGY
December 6th - ALL applications are due for those 8th graders interested in applying for the 2025-2026 school year
January 14th, 9-1 p.m.- Students visit YCST for interviews, testing, and tours. CYMS will be transporting students via bus, and permission slips will be provided soon. All students who applied are welcome to join this opportunity but are expected to check in with their teachers ahead of time for any missed work.
HOMEWORK CLUB INFORMATION
Homework Club ends at 4:00 PM on Mondays.
Students MUST have a ride home. (NO Activity Bus)
Homework Club ends at 5:00 PM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Students may be picked up or ride the activity bus home. If you are more than 5 minutes late picking up your child, they will ride the activity bus home.

CYSD DEVICE PROTECTION PLAN
Central York School District offers optional protection plans for your child’s district-issued devices.
The protection plan fully covers your child’s device for any accidental damage that occurs. The cost is $25 per year for iPads and $60 per year for Macbooks.
ORDER YOUR YEARBOOK TODAY!
Central York Middle School yearbooks are available to order now for the end of the year distribution. Yearbooks can be ordered online through the Jostens website. Paper order forms can also be sent to school with cash or check (made out to CYMS) and delivered to Mrs. Brown (room 12) or Mrs. Carlisle (room 9). Questions? HOLIDAY TEACHER SHOWCASE DEC. 5TH
Looking for some extra holiday cheer, Central York style? Come join your music faculty at the high school on December 5th at 7pm for their 2nd annual Holiday Teacher Showcase. The joy and cheer are free! Come join us!
HOLIDAY ENSEMBLES AT FLINCHBAUGH'S ORCHARD DEC. 8TH
The CYMS Small Holiday ensembles will be spreading some cheer on Sunday, December 8th, from 12-1 pm at Flinchbaugh's Orchard's Winter Fest. Come browse the market, get some yummy grub to warm your bellies, and let our music fill your heart with warmth! See you there!

ATHLETIC EVENTS REMINDERS
All elementary and middle school students must be accompanied by and supervised by an adult at all times when attending any CYSD after-school athletic event.

At Central York Middle School, we offer boys' and girls' basketball and wrestling. For the most current schedules and updates, please visit our Athletics page.
CYMS LATE WORK POLICY
Homework & Small Assignments:
- If turned in late, the maximum possible grade is 65%.
- Work is not accepted after the unit assessment is completed.
Projects & Large Assignments:
- A 10% deduction from the grade for each day the assignment is late.
- No points are awarded if the assignment is more than five days late.

SAFETY AND TECHNOLOGY RESOURCES FOR FAMILIES
Central York School District is excited to announce that we have partnered with Linewize by Family Zone, a leading education technology company, to provide District families and students with the highest quality of online safety and digital wellness education.
As members of the Central York Community, you have access to an Online Safety Hub, as well as free parent/guardian access to the Qustodio App, a parental control app that allows families insight and control of their child’s device usage.
Qustodio App
The Qustodio App allows parents access to monitor and supervise their child’s time online. By signing up, parents can monitor their child’s activity on their school-issued device, as well as up to two additional personal devices at no cost.
The app enables parents to:
- Receive reports and alerts on your child’s school-time activity
- Enable and disable internet access
- Receive guidance and tips on digital guides and threats
Access to features on your child’s school-issued device will be effective during non-school hours. Usage on two free personal devices is 24/7. Parents must use the email associated with their Skyward account.
Online Safety Hub
The Online Safety Hub includes helpful parent advice guides, app and game reviews, online safety quizzes, resources, and access to information about the Qustodio App.
