I hope everyone is off to a great start this school year!

I am super thrilled to announce that Steve Willis, Librarian Extraordinaire, is now serving the libraries at Brooklawn/Bellewood and St. Joseph's School! I look forward to working with and learning from him throughout the school year.

Also, congratulations to Ms. Lindsay Prewitt, our library clerk, who became Mrs. Lindsay Kerr this past August. Mrs. Lindsay will continue checking library books out at several locations and working with Steve and I to help maintain our library spaces. We will operate as a team and I am at the service of all of our awesome State Agency schools, so please don't hesitate to reach out if there is anything I can do for you.

In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, below, I have linked a short presentation that includes a read aloud of the book titled Dreamers by Yuyi Morales, a link to a short audio about the author and links to several leveled activities that can be used with elementary (level 1), middle (level 2), or high school (level 3) students. This would be great to use during SEL time as it lends itself to discussions about cultural similarities and differences, as well as feelings about discrimination.

I can't say enough about this awesome resource that the District pays for us to use. Gale is loaded with up-to-date, reliable resources for teachers and students to access, and it is easy to use!

Below I have attached a PDF lesson plan from Gale geared toward Hispanic Heritage Month. I am more than happy to create a video explaining how you and your students can access and use Gale, or I can come to your class and help facilitate the process!

I'm excited to start hosting RIF at our State Agency locations! My goal is to try and give books away to all of the students we serve, a minimum of three times throughout the school year; Fall, Winter, and Spring. My ability to do this relies heavily on the number of books we have available and I am happy to say that we were able to order loads of great new and diverse titles at the end of last year.

A couple of the goals that I have for the library program this year are...

• Acknowledging and celebrating awareness months, appreciation weeks and national days with students.
• Collaborating with teachers.
• Offering more useful, relevant, content related resources.

So if you would like to work together on a project in the classroom, please reach out to me. In the meantime, I will be working on some ideas to share with you!
