Principal Kraemer's Notes
October
Home of the Rabbits!
Mission: At Rabbit Creek, we strive to create a safe and inclusive environment that fosters high levels of academic and social emotional standards to prepare all students for success and future challenges.
Vision: We create and provide rigorous academic and social emotional practices that engage and motivate our individual learners.
Land Acknowledgement: We acknowledge that our school is on the traditional lands of the Dena'ina People of Upper Cook Inlet. For thousands of years, the Dena'ina People have continued to be the stewards of this land. ASD is committed to diversity and inclusion, and it is with honor and respect that we recognize all Indigenous people who live and learn in our community.
Dear Rabbit Creek Families,
The first full month of school has come and gone in a flash. September ended with great fun and excitement when our students participated in the jog-a-thon. The fun doesn't stop as we welcome October on picture day. I am sure many of you have noticed the snow creeping down our mountains and the temperature dropping. Please make sure our students are dressed warmly and are getting to school with enough time to beat the bell. Soon the roads will be icy and I want everyone safe.
Jog-a-thon was a big hit! ASD communications and the local news even came to cover the event! I want to personally thank our PTA for their amazing work - it was a truly memorable day! Thank you to all of the family members who volunteered as well, we could not have made this happen without you. Finally, thank you to everyone who showed support for our students either by showing up and cheering them on or by donating. Our students ran 4,399 laps which equals 439.9 miles! They worked so hard and I am so proud of them!
Picture Day is coming on Tuesday, October 1st! Lifetouch School Photography, known for capturing school pictures from K-12 nationwide, will take our school photos this year. For more information about Picture Day, visit: https://schools.lifetouch.com/for-your-families/
Alaska Reads and mClass Home Connect Report will be sent home with students in grades K-3. Schools, districtwide will be sending these reports home on Tuesday, October 8th. Last year our Communications Department filmed and released a Partnering with Parents video on Alaska Reads and mClass Home Connect Report. A link to the video is HERE. More information will be shared during our K-3 Parent-Teacher Conferences.
Conferences are right around the corner (October 23rd & 24th). The Conference Scheduler will be open and links available to parents on Tuesday, October 15th - Tuesday, October 22nd.
Parents will be able to access the online conference scheduler in various ways:
• ASD home page/Families Tab/Learning Section
• ASD home page via the web slider https://www.asdk12.org/conferences
• ASD Mobile App
• Parent Connection/Quick Links
If you need help resetting your password, you can go to Parent Connection/Reset Your Password, the reset password also provides the PIN in addition to a temporary password. If you do not have access to the web, you can call the Rabbit Creek office to schedule a conference time. If you do not see Rabbit Creek on the drop-down list of schools, it means that the school has not completed the setup process for the Conference Scheduler yet.
Rightsizing has been a hot topic discussion for lots of people in our district. Families, if you have not already taken the survey and would like to provide feedback on which factors should be prioritized to identify buildings to close, combine, or repurpose, please take the time to answer questions in the Rightsizing ASD survey. The survey has been open since September 16th and will remain open until September 30th. Translated versions are available on the survey page.
Emergency drills occur every year. There are a required amount of drills that need to occur at specific times throughout the year. We have almost completed all required drills that need to be finished by September 30th. The last one to be completed is a shelter in place drill which we will be doing on Monday, September 30th. Teachers will have conversations with students before this drill takes place to provide understanding about this practice. Please click here if you would like more information about this drill and the other drills we will be practicing throughout the year. There will only be two drills in October - our monthly fire drill and The Great Alaskan Shakeout which will occur districtwide on October 17th at 10:17am.
We are looking forward to seeing all of our Rabbit Creek families during Parent-Teacher Conferences at the end of the month. If you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to contact us at (907) 742-5700.
Kind Regards,
Angela Kraemer
