Artist of the Month
The WESA Artists of the Month are Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, an award-winning husband-and-wife duo known for their work in musical theater and film. They’ve created iconic songs like "Let It Go" from Frozen and "Remember Me" from Coco. WESA students will study their work while preparing for our upcoming musical, Finding Nemo Kids, which features their music.
Welcome Ms. Deshaies
WESA would like to welcome Ms. Deshaies as our long-term substitute in Art. She will finish the school year for us, continuing to bring the artist out in all of us!
From Ms. Deshaies:
Who I am: Tracey (original), Tracie (preferred), Tracy (legal) L. Savo Deshaies, T, Mom, Nonna, Ms. D, daughter, Zingarella, sister, friend, artist, teacher, gardener, quilter, reader, dreamer, soul.
What I’ve done: Was born in 1966 in a July heat wave, learned how to scribble, draw, blow bubbles, paint, create! Suffered school, ran barefoot, climbed trees, lived in Italy, Denmark and Ireland, graduated high school in CT, went to work, sewed quilts, landed in publishing for 20 years, started a family, went to college, wrote a children’s book, made things, graduated Magna Cum Laude! Became an art teacher, fell in love with my profession, tenured, honored to be Derby High School’s 2017-18 Teacher Of The Year, obtained my Master of Fine Arts degree! Wrote another children’s book, moved to Colorado, still running barefoot (in warmer weather).
What I hope to get from this life: to learn and evolve, to teach and share, to create, grow a garden, grow a life rich with meaning and purpose.

Annual Notices
Widefield School District 3 (WSD3) has created a new webpage, Annual Notices, that contains important information we provide at the beginning of each school year. We value the roles of parents and guardians as partners in their students’ education and seek to have this information readily available and easily accessible for our community.
You can find the Annual Notices webpage on our school websites and the District website located under About Us.

WSD3 Inclement Weather Procedures
The primary method to notify all district employees, parents, and students of school closing is by radio and television. Listen to local stations for information. WSD#3 will…
- Make inclement weather decision(s) based on students’ safety.
- Make the decision as to whether school will be closed & announce that decision no later than 5:30 a.m. on radio stations & TV stations.
- Not penalize students if parents keep them home or pick them up from school on questionable days.
In the event the decision made earlier is to open schools and the storm worsens unexpectedly, WSD3 will…
Inform the same media, as stated above, that schools will dismiss students early.
Keep buildings open as long as necessary to evacuate all students safely.
Parents are expected to…
- Be responsible for custody of children
- Decide whether or not to send children to school on threatening, stormy days.
- Listen for an early dismissal announcement.
- Make sure children know what to do and where to go if dismissed early.
- Know that students may be dismissed earlier than normal.
- Not rely on telephones to make last minute arrangements for their children.
Two-Hour Late Starts
If an emergency closing is declared by the superintendent for part of the day only, a two-hour late start may be used. Whenever feasible, a two-hour late start will be announced by 5:30 a.m. through the same channels as a school closure. These channels include television, radios, and the district’s website. When district officials announce a two-hour late start, all start times, bus pickup times & other standard schedules will be moved back by two hours. No breakfast will be served on two-hour late start days.
