Updates & Reminders

SOL testing begins this week. Please refer to the testing schedule and tips below.
Teacher appreciation week is May 6th- May 10th! We are lucky to have the best teachers at Byrd! Thank you teachers for all you do!! 💙
Important reminder: Please notify the office about transportation changes via email at beseagles@glnd.k12.va.us. If you have daily transportation needs, please make sure you provide changes at the beginning of each week for the entire week. Please make sure you have all transportation changes in prior to 1:00 PM, this allows staff time to communicate all necessary changes and avoids confusion when a call is not received. We appreciate your support.
Join us at the GHS stadium this Wednesday, May 8th from 5-7 for our second annual GCPS Health & Wellness Night! We will have a 1-mile color run, door prizes, community vendors, food trucks, and games. This event is free! See the flyer below for more information.

Save the date for the evening of Friday, May 31 (the day of Field Day!!!) for an outdoor movie event at school sponsored by the Byrd Parent Group! More information to come!

SOL Testing Schedule + Tips

Reminders/Tips:

Testing can be a stressful time for our students and staff. Check out the posters below with some test-taking skills and coping strategies to help your student succeed!
Please ensure your student arrives at school on time. Testing starts around 8:30 each day and we want to ensure your student has plenty of time to complete the test.
Any students who arrive after the start of their scheduled test will have to make-up their test on another day.
Students cannot be picked up early from a testing session once it has begun. If a student is picked up early, their test will be turned in as is and their score will reflect.

Go Nuts For Reading Program

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Go Nuts for Reading program! We will distribute tickets to the Wednesday, May 29th Flying Squirrels game the week of the game. Kids are invited to participate in a parade around the field prior to the start of the game. Families can purchase additional tickets for $10 a ticket through our school fundraiser site: https://fevo.me/bes2024. Last year the game sold out, so get your extra tickets early!

Dates: June 10-12th

Ages: 7-15

Grades: Rising 1st- 9th graders

Cost: $100

Bulldog Cheerleading Camp

The GHS Cheerleading Program will host our annual Bulldog Cheerleading Camp for students between the ages of 7-14 (Rising 1st through 8th Graders) from June 10th-12th, 8am to 12pm each day! Campers will get to work closely with GHS Cheerleaders and Coaches on skills, team building, crafts, and more! Cost to attend is $40 per participant and covers a t-shirt and camp supplies. Community News

Feed More Food Bus

The Feed More Food Bus will be at the Goochland YMCA once a month on the advertised dates. The Food Bus will provide fruits, vegetables, and other food items for free to children in need.

The bus is only for children ages 6-18.
Children must accompany the parent/adult. Only children are allowed to go onto the bus to shop. Parents/adults will not be allowed on the bus.
The bus does not require any proof of income etc. to shop.

May 29th: Flying Squirrels Go Nuts for Reading game
May 31st: Field day and Movie Night at School!

June 6th: Talent show/ early dismissal/ last day of school!

Parents who wish to chaperone a field trip or volunteer regularly in our school must submit to a background check every 2 years using the BIB portal. The process is completely electronic. If you are having problems with the system, contact Demetra Harris at dharris@glnd.k12.va.us.
