The LCPS Letter
One LCPS Celebration Day!
Our first-ever One LCPS Celebration Day was a blast! This day was created by Dr. Spence to honor schools, their staff and students for everything they do for LCPS. School staff and students dressed in spirit wear and shared fun photos. The Department of Communications and Community Engagement has received hundreds of photos, and more are coming in! These photos highlight the creativity, dedication and pride of our students and staff. Check out the LCPS X account to see some of the highlights!
Throughout the day, Dr. Spence and his team visited nearly 70 schools to thank and congratulate students and staff for all they do to make LCPS shine. Be sure to check out the LCPS Fact Sheet to learn about all the great achievements LCPS has to celebrate! From SOL scores to schools to watch, LCPS is a leader in Northern Virginia and across the U.S.! These accomplishments could not be achieved without the hard work of LCPS' dedicated staff and amazing students.
Dual Language Immersion Information Sessions
LCPS will host Parent Information Nights for the Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program at various locations across the county. The DLI program gives native English and Spanish-speaking students the chance to develop strong skills in both languages while achieving academic success. Students learn to read, write, and communicate effectively in English and Spanish, while their primary language continues to grow. The program helps students become bilingual, biliterate, and culturally competent. Parents and guardians with incoming kindergarteners and /or rising first-grade families interested in the DLI program should attend one of the upcoming in-person meetings from 6 to 7:30 p.m. For dates, times and locations, visit www.lcps.org/DLI or see these flyers: Information Night Flyer (Spanish) or Information Night Flyer (English).
Provide Feedback on Assessment and Grading Policy
LCPS is in the process of accepting feedback on revising the Assessment and Grading policy, Policy 5030. Your feedback on potential implementation solutions and possible changes to the policy will be invaluable as the School Board considers different perspectives and input. Please review the policy and feedback analysis thus far, and submit your feedback using this Let’s Talk Form. Feedback is accepted through Thursday, Oct. 31, when the data will be compiled and analyzed to make recommended revisions to the policy.
Please note that providing feedback does not represent a guarantee that it will be included in the final policy. All feedback will be reviewed by School Board committees as they develop the policy for submission to the entire School Board. The authority for final approval of any policy lies solely with the Loudoun County School Board.
Ombuds Helps LCPS Community Navigate Concerns
One of the many valuable resources that LCPS provides is the Office of the Ombuds. Established in August 2022, the Ombuds serves students, families, employees and community members as a designated neutral resource to help navigate concerns or issues within LCPS. The Ombuds follows the four fundamental principles established under the International Ombuds Association standards of practice when supporting constituents as they advocate for fairness, equity and consistency. These principles include independence, impartiality, confidentiality, and informality. On Tuesday, Sept. 10, the Ombuds shared the second annual report with the School Board, and Thursday, Oct. 10, was Ombuds Day, with the theme “Ombuds: Here to Hear You.” Visit the Office of the Ombuds webpage to learn more about the office and how to contact the Ombuds.
Important Information Regarding LCPS Microsoft Accounts
To continue to improve Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) data security, beginning Wednesday, November 6, LCPS Microsoft accounts will only connect to approved third-party applications. This is similar to what we did with LCPS Google accounts in the spring.
What does this mean?
After Wednesday, November 6, third-party applications that support the "Sign in with Microsoft" functionality must be reviewed and approved by the Department of Digital Innovation (DDI). Applications that are already approved for use with LCPS Microsoft accounts will continue functioning as usual. For assistance or questions regarding this message, please contact the DDI Technology Support Center.
Waterford Elementary Substitute Receives SHINE Award
Congrats to Stephanie Rast, a site-based substitute at Waterford Elementary, for being selected as the October SHINE winner. Ms. Rast was nominated by seven different Waterford Elementary staff members! All the nominations shared that Ms. Rast is so much more than a substitute! One staff member who nominated Ms. Rast wrote that “she makes it a point to learn as much as she can about each and every one of our classrooms, the way we each do things, and the students we work with. She is quite intuitive and always seems to know exactly who needs the extra help (whether it is a student or a teacher). I always tell her she wears so many hats – from helping in the office to being a cafeteria host, she does it all.”
SHINE – which stands for Spotlighting Heroes in Education – is a joint LCPS and Loudoun Education Foundation initiative to recognize LCPS staff members who go above and beyond in support of LCPS students and the community. Members of the LCPS community – including staff, students and parents – are invited to nominate LCPS staff who shine! SHINE award recipients receive a gift worth $500 coordinated by LEF. See the SHINE website for details on how to nominate: www.lcps.org/SHINE

Help Provide Students with Weekend Meals
One of the ways Loudoun Education Foundation supports LCPS is by providing food-insecure students with weekend meal bags and stocking food pantries through its Fueled program. LEF reports that students' need for weekend meals is growing. The Fueled program has seen a 35 percent increase in demand for weekend meal bags over the past year. We could use your help. Consider donating funds or holding a food drive to help LEF's Fueled program meet the needs of nearly 2,000 students each week. Learn how you can help at loudouneducationfoundation.org/fueled.
