Dryden Dolphin Splash Newsletter
May 4, 2020
We hope you were able to enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend!
Here is the link to the landing page with all of the grade level remote learning plans for this week.
Mrs. Sessler will be at Dryden this TUESDAY from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm, if you need to stop by and drop anything off or pick anything up, such as medicine or paper copies of remote learning activities. Please contact Mrs. Sessler at asessler@sd25.org or 847-398-4280 ext. 6501 in advance. Please wear a mask and gloves if you come by.
Please save the following dates - May 12, 13 & 14 - for pick-up of student materials and return of school books at Dryden. (We added May 12 since last week to help ensure smoother procedures and less wait time.) Pick-up will be scheduled in alphabetical order by family last name. To help you start planning, dates and times are listed below. A letter with specific instructions will be emailed to you on Monday, May 4.
As you can understand, teachers are packing up each student's belongings AND providing instruction over the next couple weeks, so they might not be as prompt in responding to families during the school day. We thank you in advance for your patience and flexibility during this time.
In the meantime, we hope you remain safe and well, and "May the 4th be with you" during this great Dolphin Week! (Photo below is from May 4, 2019 in front of Dryden School.)
Well Wishes from Dryden Teachers & Staff

Virtual Senior Walk
We are hoping Former Dolphins who are graduating high school seniors can join us virtually for Dryden's Senior Walk this year! Our staff is eagerly looking forward to congratulating our high school seniors on their upcoming graduation as well as sharing many fond memories of our time at Dryden. We also believe the 2020 high school graduates will be inspirational to our current students. Please join us for a walk down memory lane and share your future aspirations via Flipgrid. We would love it if you could share a photo of when you were at Dryden as well as wear your graduation cap and future college or career attire, but it's not required.
Please share your name and email on the form linked here and the link and password to our Virtual Senior Walk Flipgrid will be sent to you. Submissions will be approved by Dryden Staff before they are posted. We look forward to seeing and hearing from our high school seniors soon. Thank you!
Not Returning to Dryden for 2020-2021?
If you have a student at Dryden currently in kindergarten through fourth grade and are planning to NOT return to Dryden for the 2020-2021school year, please let us know by filling out this form.
A Series Worth Watching
WTTW is partnering with Mayor Lori Lightfoot to provide programming that will open the doors to the city’s museums and cultural institutions to students and families staying at home across the Chicago area, offering “virtual field trips” behind the scenes. In the first episode, Mayor Lightfoot heads to the Shedd Aquarium to visit the penguins, feed the sharks, and say hello to “Nickel,” the rescued sea turtle.
WTTW will air the series twice weekly on Fridays and Mondays, with the first episode on Friday, May 1 at 5:30 pm on WTTW (11.1) and on Monday, May 4 at 12:30 pm on WTTW Prime (11.2). WTTW will also stream all episodes on wttw.com/watch.

Teacher Appreciation Week is this Week! May 4-8!
This upcoming week is Teacher Appreciation Week, so let's make sure our teachers feel just how much we love and appreciate them! At some point this week, please consider completing one (or as many as you like!) of these tasks:
1. Post a video to Dryden's "Teacher Appreciation" Flipgrid explaining what you love about the teachers at Dryden. Your response will be seen by all Dryden Staff, so this is the place to share artwork, letters, and comments like, "Dryden teachers really rock because..." You can access the Flipgrid by using the code: https://flipgrid.com/wasik8370
Password: Dolphins25
2. Record and send a video directly to your own teacher saying thank you and telling them why you appreciate them.
3. Write a letter or draw a picture telling your teacher why he/she is special, take a photo, and send to your teacher via email.
5th Grade Service Project- Journeys
Prior to Spring Break and the subsequent school closing, our 5th grade students had voted as a class to support Journeys - The Road Home for their service project.
JOURNEYS is a non-profit agency that provides shelter, social services and housing to the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless in 37 towns in north/northwest suburban Cook County. Unfortunately, the kids are not at school to help collect and support this service project, but we hope to still try and show support for Journeys - The Road Home from our own homes. The PTA will be purchasing items from Journey's Amazon Wishlist, in the class of 2020's name, with any money leftover from the 5th grade gift to Dryden. If you are so inclined, you can support this organization by purchasing items from its Amazon Wishlist. The link to the wish list is: If you would like to learn more about the organization and its needs, please click on the link below: JOURNEYS | The Road Home - Home Thank you in advance for any support that you may be able to provide during this time of uncertainty for those in the most need!
School Supply Packs
It's time to order your 2020-2021 School Supply Packs! We’re thrilled to announce that we have partnered with a new LOCAL company this year, Shane's Kits!
What is staying the same? Our supplier passes quantity discount savings along to us, so the kits are usually less expensive, more accurate, and more convenient than shopping on your own. And custom name labels for your supplies are included with each pack.
What has changed? You can now ship your kit directly to Dryden AND pay no shipping fee! If you order by June 12, your kits will be shipped directly to Dryden with no shipping costs. The packs will be distributed to each child's classroom - we'll let you know these details closer to next Fall - but no more struggling to school on the first day with that overflowing backpack!
What else? Mid-summer orders! If you miss the June 12 deadline, you can still order through much of the summer! Orders placed between June 13 and through August 3 will be delivered to your home. The price for the kits are the same, with a shipping fee of $9.95 per order (not per kit). Kits should arrive within 10-15 business days or sooner.
To order, click here and enter Dryden School code DRY25. Be sure to select the grade your child will be in next year. If you're having trouble placing your order, try a different browser, device, or try clearing your cache. We've gotten feedback that other sites use cookies that can interfere with the checkout process.
