Lotus Notes
Our 6th graders work really hard on note-taking. This picture shows a way they designed their notes on ancient civilizations to be interactive by turning them and having different layers in the form of lotus flowers.
Future Cities Competition
Our 6th grade academic enrichment group competed in this national competition and won for Outstanding First Year Team and also the Reinventing Tomorrow award. Congrats!
100th Day of School
Our students had fun celebrating the 100th day of school in style!
Teaching in Teams
This year, we had two homerooms in 1st, 3rd, and 4th grade that had teachers teach in a "diad," meaning that one teacher taught Reading and Writing to both classes and one teacher taught Math, Science, and Social Studies to both classes. The results of this formation of teaching has been very positive. The teachers are reporting a better ability to focus and plan instruction, the students are enjoying the movement and change of pace during the day, and the parents feel it has been very good for their children. Most importantly, students' academic achievement so far has been stronger in these classes. We are looking to potentially expand this format to 4 of the 5 classes in each grade 1st-4th next year. As School Lane continues to grow and evolve, we see this as an opportunity to make sure our teachers are specializing in particular subjects so that they can really focus in on your child's strengths and areas of growth in that area. Much like our accelerated math class, our instrumental program, and our pullout special education classes, this is another example of School Lane being able to focus in on the individual talents of each child. Nothing is finalized yet, but I wanted to pass along some of the data we got from parents of children in these classes, pictured below.
