I have obviously been in communication with you a lot at the Senior Class meeting and many emails I have sent about senior class 'stuff'! Please continue to check your school emails!
Continue to work hard in class on grades and on attendance. I will be placing H's on courses where excessive tardies or absences have occurred the first ten weeks! See me if you have any questions.
I hope many of you have completed your college applications! See Mrs. Petit or me at any time to talk about your 'future'!
Talk to your parents about your cap n gown ordering! Herff Jones is coming to BHS on Nov 8th and 9th if you want to place your order face-to-face!

Juniors - Principal Connection
Hi 11th Graders and Families,
It has been such a great start to the school year, and I am so proud of the hard work you are all putting in each and every day! I have seen so much growth, and your junior year is shaping up to be very successful. I have connected with you all on a couple of different occasions, so I'd like to reiterate my goals for your junior year.
- Stay on top of your academics. Many of you have visited with either Ms. Grossfeld or myself if you need support. Your teachers are your best resource for help either during class, after school or during Advisory. However, we also have additional resources linked HERE.
- Know and work on your PSAT score. Make sure your College Board account is linked to Khan Academy. As I stated in our PSAT Readiness meetings, each year BHS students widen the score gap on the state by intentionally working to improve your SAT. We do this to help you, and for your future!
- Explore different career pathways! Now is the time to take as many different electives as possible to see what piques your interest. We hope that your work in Xello started your thinking about what might interest you. Take advantage of our free Lunch N Learn opportunities. Click on the 23/24 schedule HERE to see which presenters are coming to BHS this year!
- Start thinking ahead to research your path: set up a college visit, a military interview, a job shadow, etc. And, start thinking about how to schedule effectively for your senior year.
- Take care of YOU - find a good balance between family, school, athletics, extra curricular activities, work and friends. Surround yourself with kind people that make you feel good about yourself and lift you up. Be that person for someone else!

Sophomores - Principal Connection
Hello 10th Graders & Families!
I don't think I can speak for everyone, but personally these first 9 weeks have already flown by! With a year of growth for all students and myself, I have seen a drastic improvement in a lot of areas from so many of you, I am definitely proud to be your principal! Just like I have a great team of administrators in Mr. Evans, Mrs. Richards, & Mr. Johnson, know that you all have a great team of peers, staff, counselors, and us as administrators, too. Here a few things for each of you to remember or think about for your your first 9 weeks:
- Find some balance! Make sure you are emphasizing your academics, but ALSO make sure you are finding some time for yourself as a learner and as a human. Find extracurriculars, find clubs, find things that you enjoy to make the most of your time at BHS!
- 'Embrace the struggle': if things seem challenging, lean in. The growth comes from the struggle and it isn't a chance to fail, rather an opportunity for growth. Obviously, we don't want anyone to push themselves beyond what is healthy, but a good challenge in an exam, a project, assignments can all be beneficial down the road in our lives.
- Long term: What are your goals? What are your plans? Start thinking about what classes you want to explore and learn more about! We have so many options at BHS with classes, programs, and people to help move you towards your goals!
- Attendance: you have be here to be your best. It is simple, not easy. Attendance is one of the highest predictors of academic success and if you are late to class, if you skip class, if you are consistently absent, it is tough to be successful! Medical and other personal reasons do happen, so be open with your teachers, counselors, and administrators to be proactively supportive
- Connect: relationships are so important to how much we enjoy school. Teachers & peers can be a part of a long standing memory. We don't always remember what we learn, but we do remember how felt in a class. This was a big reason I chose education as a career, I had some incredibly impactful educators in my life. Use advisory, clubs, teams, and put yourself out there!

Freshmen - Principal Connection
Hello Class of 2027!
Hopefully your year is off to a great start! Iโve enjoyed getting to sit down with many of you just to check in and see how things are going, and plan to keep doing that as the year goes on. I appreciate all of your hard work so far so that you can start your Freshman year off on the right foot. I also appreciate the attentiveness you showed at last weekโs Yellow Ribbon Assembly. A very serious topic, but an important one, and your class did an excellent job! Mrs. Caverly and I are always here to provide support, so please donโt hesitate to reach out if you need anything! Just a couple reminders as the end of the 1st Quarter is here:
Keep looking for ways to get involved! Sometimes as students transition from middle school to high school their friend groups change, and so do their interests. Thatโs ok, embrace the change! Join clubs, organizations, or sports teams that interest you. This is a great way to meet people and develop new skills. It helps us feel connected to our school and the students in it.
Make sure you are staying on top of your academics! Your grades matter now. Certain classes have to be taken and passed in order to earn your diploma for graduation. Grades earned now have an impact on the options you have available down the line and it is not easy to increase your grade point average if you start somewhere other than where you want to be. If you're struggling in a class, don't be afraid to seek help from your teachers, tutors, counselor, principal, etc.
Start thinking about your future options now. Before you know it, we will be meeting with you to talk about next yearโs schedule and your elective choices. It is never a bad idea to map out your Junior and Senior years to make sure you can take what interests you and what sets you up to be successful after graduation. Brighton High School also offers Lunch and Learn options where you can come hear about possible careers, directly from people working in those fields now! See the information below for upcoming Lunch and Learn opportunities.
Now is the time to work on getting and staying organized. Consider using a planner or digital calendar to keep track of assignments, exams, and important dates. Think about creating a to-do list to prioritize tasks and manage your time effectively. Set a regular schedule for studying, attending classes, and taking care of yourself. Find a productive and comfortable study environment.
It's okay to make mistakes; they are part of the learning process, but make sure you are using them as opportunities for growth.
-Mr. Evans
Follow-Up to PSAT & SAT Prep
BHS took advantage of preparing our students early for the SAT Digital Test by having our juniors take the PSAT digitally. This is just another way that we are giving you tools for success. Scores from our October PSAT should be released soon, so look out for those! Here are some additional tools to aid in your success:
- Take advantage of the practice provided to you by your English teachers in Khan Academy.
- Don't forget that you have the opportunity to take FREE tests in Khan before taking the SAT in April. More information on this linked HERE
- Set aside some time periodically to work on sample questions at home.
Preparing for the 1st Quarter Exams
