Hello Husky Families! We have had an amazing first week of school and are all getting into our routines and procedures for the year. Our kindergarteners did a great job acclimating to school for their first day today.
Be sure to complete 'Volunteer Registration' for the 24-25 school year. Only registered volunteers are able to volunteer in the classrooms, attend field trips, or work in our school in any capacity. I recommend that all parents complete the registration, even if you are not sure what activities you may be involved in. The process is not a quick one so I encourage you all to go ahead and get it done.
As always, reach out with any questions or concerns.
Respectfully,
Catherine Shearin, Principal

2024-25 Biker/Walker Registration
Highcroft Drive Elementary is dedicated to the safety of all of our students. Ensuring that proper safety procedures are in place at all times, especially at dismissal, guarantees that all of our students are dismissed from school the correct way.
Students who live in the surrounding neighborhoods are always welcome to walk or bike to school. Being a walker/biker is designed for families who are within walking/biking distance from home. No longer will we allow students to be designated walkers by parking in the neighborhood and walking to and from the side streets to a car. This creates safety concerns for students, parents, and neighbors in the community. All families are welcome to take advantage of our safe and efficient carpool or yellow bus.
If your child(ren) will walk or bike from your home, you will need to follow the new walker procedures outlined below as well as complete the application.
All parents who want their child to be a walker must complete the walker application below. Approved walkers will receive a walker tag affixed to their bookbag. Students will not be released as a walker unless they have been approved and have a walker tag. The walker tag must be displayed on the students’ backpack at all times. Students without a walker tag will be sent to the office to be signed out by a parent or guardian.
At dismissal each day, all walkers will be dismissed from either the side double doors by the K-1 playground or back double doors by the bike racks. While leaving, students will be checked by a staff member to ensure they are approved walkers. If they are not on the approved walker list they will be sent to the office. Parents will be responsible for checking them out in the office after showing identification.
K- 1 Students with a red walker tag will be dismissed from the side double doors by the playground to an approved adult or sibling. Staff members will match students with approved adults.
2nd - 5th grade students with a yellow walker tag will be dismissed from the back double doors by the bike racks and are not required to be picked up by an approved adult if parents give permission for them to walk/bike alone. They are permitted to walk a younger sibling home with parent permission and can join their sibling at the K-1 Dismissal Doors.
All Kindergarten and 1st grade students walking will only be dismissed to a parent, approved adult, or sibling at the walker door.
All students who bike to school should park bikes in a bike rack spot at the back of the school. Bikers can enter school through the back doors by the bike racks. All others should enter at the front of the school.
At no time should parents park along the streets in the Highcroft neighborhood or along Sears Farm Park to drop off, pick up, or walk to school to receive/drop off students.
Any changes to dismissal should be communicated in writing to your child’s teacher. If a change needs to be made during the school day, parents should email the teacher and also call the front office to ensure the dismissal change is communicated to the student and teacher.
Here Comes the Bus App
If your child will be a bus rider during the 24-25 school year, be sure to download the 'Here Comes the Bus' app. This allows families to track buses in the morning and afternoon. Families will be able to access the app on Friday, August 23rd. Existing users will simply add students back to your account. More information can be at the link below.
