Principal Perspective
It's beginning to look a lot like a very busy time of year. Today starts our winter sports seasons. I can imagine we will be seeing some sore and slow moving student-athletes this week as first practices and conditioning begin. I would be remiss if I did not offer hearty congratulations to all of our Fall teams, many of whom represented us well into the post-season. I enjoyed getting out to see our student-athletes compete.
December is also high season for our fine, applied and performing arts students. There are several concerts coming up next week. On Monday there is a chorus concert, followed by an Arts reception and band/orchestra concert on Tuesday. I am very much looking forward to these events. Our students, as evidenced in the amazing production of Hadestown, are so talented.
As we enter this season of celebration and giving, I want to be mindful that sometimes this is a season of challenge as well. With that in mind, I share the following:
I know that making ends meet can sometimes get difficult for some of the families in our HPS community. Therefore, we want to let you know that there are individuals in each of our schools who are ready to provide information and assistance. With that in mind, please be aware that access to government programs and other resources that are donated by a very generous Hingham community may be available to help families in times of financial or other need. Some examples of such outreach include the state supported free breakfast/ lunch program (free for all permanently) and assistance with costs such as with athletics, bus/field trips, school pictures, and tuition fees. As well, because of the generosity and caring of parents and others in our community, we are able to support families during the holiday seasons. Please don’t hesitate to contact an administrator, the school nurse, or counseling personnel in your child's school if you need any kind of assistance. Please be assured that your request will be managed in a way that respects your rights for confidentiality.
Business Pathway
Business Pathway Pilot Program- HHS is ready to pilot a new pathway program for Business. The program will offer opportunities for students with a special interest in Business. Students can learn about the Business Pathway Program by attending a brief informational meeting immediately after school on December 10th in room 278. This program is available for students currently enrolled in a business course, have taken a business course in the past, or are considering business electives in future semesters. To learn more, students can join the Google Classroom page (xkcob6t) prior to the meeting. Please see Mr. Hoey, Mr. Tarantello, or Mr. George if you have any questions.

Morning Drop Off
PULL FORWARD
We have received numerous complaints about the flow of traffic in the morning. Cars are regularly backed up onto the main road. To alleviate or at least mitigate, we are asking cars to pull forward as far as they can when dropping off. Currently, many commuters stop right at the main door, which leaves little room for other cars, thus backing up onto the road. Please pull forward. And as always, use caution as the lot has many pedestrians making their way across the parking lot to the building.
Student Activity Fee
Student activities are open to all students of Hingham High School. Participation this year requires payment of a High School Activity Fee of $100.00 per student. The Activity Fee can be paid online via this link.
Toy Drive
Holiday Toy Drive at Hingham High!
As part of the Project 351 youth leadership and service organization, sophomore Nora Christofferson and freshman Lexie Grimm will be holding a toy drive at the high school from Monday, December 2 through Friday, December 13! The drive will be in partnership with the South Shore Foster Closet organization, which supports children who may have difficult family situations. With this being the time of year when family togetherness is valued so highly, it is ever more important that these children feel loved. Toys of any value would be appreciated. Donation bins will be in the main hallway right inside the front entrance. Thank you so much for your support!
