Panther Planner
For the Week of October 28, 2024
PES Mission
PES serves our community by preparing all students in a safe and nurturing environment to be critical thinkers, productive citizens and thrivers with admirable character.
Attendance matters from the first day of school until the last!
Did you know students who miss two to four days in October are more likely to have a poor attendance record for the year? Please monitor your child's attendance and make every effort to have them at school as much as possible (unless they are sick... of course.)
What do I do if my child misses school/ How does the school communicate to parents?
Please call the Attendance Office at your school site and leave a message. Please leave your child’s name, the reason for the absence, the date of the absence and your name to verify that it was a parent/guardian that is verifying the absence. Or, you may send a note upon your child’s return to school.
It is also important to remember that when students are checked out early, they miss instruction. Please schedule appointments after the close of the school day so that your child can be a part of all the learning that is taking place from 8:50 to 3:15.
Check the calendar below for the 24.25 school year.
Thank you for your support!

2025/2026 Intradistrict Transfer Open Enrollment Window is Now Open
- Submission Deadline: The window opened on Monday, October 14, 2024, and will remain open until January 31, 2025.
- Continuing Transfers: If your child is already on an approved transfer and will continue to attend the same school during the 2025/2026 school year, there's no need to submit a new transfer request. New requests are only required if you wish to change schools.
- New Transfers: If you would like your child to attend a school other than your school of residence based on your current address, please be sure to submit a transfer request during the Open Enrollment Transfer Window.
- Transitioning to Middle and/or High School: The transition from elementary to middle school and/or from middle school to high school is not based on a previous/current school of attendance; it is solely based on primary residence address. If you plan on having your child attend a middle school or high school other than your school of residence, be sure to submit a transfer request prior to January 31, 2025.
- New to/or not currently attending a TVUSD School: You may submit a transfer request during the Open Enrollment Window for the 2025/2026 school year even if your child is not currently enrolled in a TVUSD school. If your child is new to TVUSD during the 2025/2026 school year, additional eligibility information must be submitted (after the first semester report card).
- Equal Consideration: All timely submissions received during the Open Enrollment Transfer Window will be given equal consideration. Consideration will be based on space availability at the requested school and meeting the District’s transfer eligibility criteria.
- We anticipate notifying parents/guardians of the transfer decision, either by email or by mail, using the addresses provided on the application, no later than May 2025.

Salute to Heroes - Wednesday, November 6th
Salute to Heroes
Paloma Elementary will be hosting our annual Salute to Heroes on Wednesday, November 6th at Flag Salute.
We are inviting all First Responders, Active Military, and Veterans to participate in a special assembly that will include patriotic songs, poems, and testimonials from some of the students of our heroes. Following our assembly, we will have a "Hero Parade" through our school. If you wish and are able, you are welcome to wear your uniform.
If you are a First Responder, Active Military, or a Veteran and would like to participate, please fill out the form attached at the bottom, so that we can ensure that we have enough seating for our heroes at this special event. Heroes may invite one guest to sit with them, but due to limited space other guests that are attending will need to stand. Students will sit with their classes. Thank you for understanding.
All Heroes will check in at the front office on the day of the event and will be directed to our assembly area. If you would like to attend, please respond by Friday, October 25th in order to reserve a seat.
We are also inviting all students to send in unframed pictures of the Heroes in their families past and present to be displayed at school. Please send your printed, unframed pictures to school with your student by October 30th. Thank you!
Storybook Character Day
TVUSD Winter Holiday Card Competition
It's that time of year again for the TVUSD Holiday Card Competition. All entries are due by November 12th. The template and rules for submissions can be found here. The template is also available at the front office.
Please turn in your entries to Mrs. Kellie at the front office. Last year's elementary winner was Charlie Lu a 5th grader at Tony Tobin.
24.25 Spirit Day Schedule
Social/Emotional Learning at Paloma!
For the month of October, students will be learning about the Thriver trait, Empathy, from Michele Borba's book Thrivers.
This week in our morning meetings, we are finishing up learning about Empathy. To build the bridge between home and school consider talking to your child about what empathy is and what it is not.
Breakfast and Lunch is FREE!
All students are able to receive a free breakfast and hot lunch, please make sure your child knows whether they have brought a lunch or if they need to get one from our cafeteria. Breakfast is served at recess. Click on the link below to view both the breakfast and lunch menus.
Safety at Arrival and Dismissal
Let's keep all Panthers safe at school!
When using the loop to pick up or drop off your child by car, PLEASE.....
- Only park in appropriate areas. The pick up loop can be a very busy place, especially on modified days. However, it is important to remember to only park in designated parking spaces. Please do not park along curbs that are painted red or in handicap spots unless you have a handicap placard. If there is not parking available when you arrive, you will need to park on the street and walk to meet your child or join the pick up loop. If you are parked in these areas, you will be asked to move.
- Always use the crosswalks.
- Do not use the parking lot as an additional pick-up line. This blocks access to parking spaces, including handicap spots. If there is not an open parking spot, please pull through and go around again to look for an opening or join the loop pick up line.
- Stay in your car when using the loop. If your child needs assistance entering or exiting the car, please park in the lot and walk them to their gate.
- Move all the way forward as directed by the school staff.
- In the morning, do not wait until your child reaches the gate to pull away. Staying in the loop and watching your child walk in through the gate, slows the flow of traffic. If you would like to watch your child enter the gate, please park your car and walk your child.
- At dismissal, do not stop in the loop and wait for your child to come your direction, instead pull up when there is space to pull forward. Pull all the way forward and continue to move forward with the traffic. Your child will walk down towards you.
We appreciate your continued cooperation and patience.
