Principal's Message
Happy Friday Cougar Families!
Steele Canyon High School recognizes the relationship between positive student attendance and academic and social emotional success. At the beginning of this year we shared that our collective goal for the 2024-25 school year is to increase daily attendance and decrease chronic absenteeism (defined as missing 10% or more of the school days). At the halfway point we are excited to share that the results we are seeing are promising.
Average Daily Attendance
Our average daily attendance is up slightly to date from previous years.
Through November
- 2024-25 - 95.08%
- 2023-24 - 94.89%
Chronic Absenteeism
We are on track for a dramatic decrease in chronic absenteeism.
Through November
- 2024-25 - 12.31%
- 2023-24 - 16.10%
While promising, we know there is a lot of progress still to be made to maximize the learning experiences for our students. I want to recognize and thank the work of our staff, families, and students for recognizing the importance of attending school and utilizing the academic and social emotional resources we provide that lead to increased student achievement.
We look forward to celebrating our students with Cougariffic Attendance on January 10th (those with no tardies, no all-day absences, and whose early dismissals or late arrivals have been excused through our Attendance Office). In addition, we will be sending letters of support to the families of students who have missed 10% or more of the school year to date. These letters will share information regarding school resources and support services we offer to make in-person attendance as accessible as possible for our Cougars.
Thank you for making Steele Canyon a great place to learn and work
Have a wonderful and safe holiday season and we can’t wait to see you on January 8th!
Rah! Rah! Cougars!

Career Technical Education
Jewelry/Metalsmithing Manufacturing
Our Career Technical Education class in Advanced Jewelry/Metalsmithing Manufacturing visited the Gemological Institute of America in Carlsbad. Our students had the opportunity to visit the GIA campus and participated in a workshop taught by one of GIA's Instructors on how to use the 3 D modeling program, ZBrush. Students enjoyed learning how to create 3 Dimensional forms on the computer.
Graphic Design and Animation
Our graphic design and animation Career Technical Education classes had the opportunity to visit the Comic Con Museum. They learned about animation history and graphic design principles as they viewed artwork over the last 75 years. During their visit students learned the process involved in creating a storyboard by creating their own original story, in addition to building and designing an animated vehicle.
Criminal Justice
Students from our Career Technical Education Criminal Justice class visited the Sheriff's Station. They toured the facility and watched presentations from the Canine Unit, Bomb Squad and Swat team. Students observed the Canine officer take down an assailant, were able to try on the protective bomb squad suit and learned what a typical day is like for the detectives. Career technical classes give students skills for a particular profession and skills that transfer to other professions.
