What a great start to the school year!
Another great week in Raider Nation! This week, students took part in MAP testing for ELA and Math, and those who attended both days enjoyed a dress-down day. We wrapped up the week with a half day for students and afternoon professional development for our teachers. Next week, we'll complete MAP makeup testing. Enjoy the long weekend, and we look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday as we continue our journey through the first 9 weeks.
Reminders:
- School Start Time: 8:15 a.m. Supervision begins at 7:45 a.m.
- Drop-Off Location: Car riders should be dropped off at the back of the school.
- Student Supervision: Staff will assist students from buses and cars to their grade-level hallways.
- Afternoon Dismissal: Please let your child know whether they will be a car rider or bus rider in the afternoon so we can direct them accordingly. Do not park in the Northwestern parking lot (near the baseball field) to wait for RRMS students.
- Cell Phones: No cell phones allowed during the school day. Students are not allowed to record or take pictures on school grounds, including the bus.
- Laptop Deployment: Laptop deployment is complete. If you haven’t yet paid the $20 technology fee, you can send it to school or pay online.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. Here’s to a great week ahead!
September is National Suicide Prevention Month
September is Suicide Prevention Month — a time to raise awareness of this very prevalent topic. Suicide Prevention Month asks us to assist in shifting public perception, spread hope and share vital information to people affected by suicide. The goal of Suicide Prevention Month is also ensuring that individuals, friends and families have access to the resources they need to discuss suicide prevention and to seek help.
Suicidal thoughts can affect anyone regardless of age, gender or background. In most situations, suicide is often the result of an untreated mental health condition. Suicidal thoughts should not be considered normal and often indicate more serious issues.

Raider Football
The Raider football team traveled to Banks Trail Middle School in Fort Mill on Wednesday. The Raiders defeated the Banks Trail Wolves 18-6. High lights of the game:
Kiantre Neely scored on a 45 yard touchdown run to get the Raiders on the board. Later in the next drive Kiantre Neely hit Landon Williams for a 60 yard touchdown pass. The Raiders final score came when AJ Pettus ran for a 40 yard touchdown. Also playing well on offense was running back Demario Hemphill, who ran over numerous Wolves throughout the second half.
Defensively the Raiders played really well only giving up one score on the night. Leading the Raiders were Dash Holley who had 5 tackles, 2 sacks, and forced 1 fumble. Bama had a very good night with 3 tackles and 2 sacks as well. DJ Jackson contributed with 2 tackles and 1 sack. Owen Faile had very good night as well with 6 tackles. Gray Shelton had several key solo tackles in the secondary. Kaydon Peoples caused havoc all night by disrupting the offensive line and getting pressure in the back field.
Thank you to all the fans that made the trip to Banks Trail.
The Raiders travel to York on Wednesday, September 11 to take on the York Cougars.

District Announcements
Important Health Information
Dear Parents,
We currently have a large number of students and staff absent with COVID and respiratory symptoms. As you may know, COVID is spread easily from person to person and school-age children are among the groups most affected. COVID symptoms include cough, runny nose and congestion, sore throat, headache, and fatigue. Some individuals with COVID will have a fever, and others do not.
If you suspect your child is getting sick, please do not send them to school. Students who are experiencing the symptoms listed above should complete the following steps:
- Stay home from school
- Call the school to report your child’s symptoms
- Utilize the district COVID/Flu testing sites if you would like your child tested for free
- Notification of illness and testing will ensure your child’s absences are coded correctly for COVID or flu
School staff continue to work closely with the RH Schools Nursing Services department and SC Department of Public Health to monitor COVID and respiratory illness in our school community, make decisions about the best steps to take and ensure disinfecting practices are being followed. Custodial staff will continue to disinfect classrooms and common areas regularly. Classrooms with an increased number of sick students will be disinfected nightly.
Here are a few things parents can do to help our schools reduce the spread of illness:
- Teach your children to wash their hands often with soap and water.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or upper sleeve when you cough or sneeze.
- Take time to get a flu and/or COVID vaccine. Vaccination is the best way to prevent the flu and COVID. SC Department of Public Health strongly recommends all South Carolina residents older than 6 months old get the flu vaccine as soon as possible to prevent the flu, unless they have a medical reason not to be vaccinated.
- Teach your children not to share personal items like drinks, food or unwashed utensils.
- Know the signs and symptoms of the flu and COVID.
- Please don’t send children to school if they are sick. Any child that comes to school sick will be sent home. Staying home when sick will allow your children to rest and prevents the spread of illness in our school.

Director of Nursing
Dear Rock Hill Schools Family,
As we move further into the school year, our sports and after-school activities will ramp up and we expect you will join us in keeping our campuses and facilities safe.
First and foremost, we expect every visitor to any of our fall activities to be respectful toward the athletes, thespians, band members, staff, administrators, other guests and law enforcement partners working our events.
All guests to our district stadiums are required to adhere to our Clear Bag Policy. When guests come to our facilities, they will not be permitted into the activities with any bag other than a clear bag. The bags also may not be larger than 12 by 12 inches and 6 inches deep. For more information on the Clear Bag Policy, visit our Safety and Security page: https://www.rock-hill.k12.sc.us/Page/9159
Weapons are not permitted on school property – including during sporting events, forums, and arts performances - unless you are a sworn law enforcement officer permitted to carry with proper identification. Our Safety and Security team will be working entrances to many of our events to screen guests for weapons.
Entry to District Stadiums
This year we have revised our entry guidelines for high school football games to promote a safer environment for our community.
- All district high school students must have a ticket/pass and show their school-issued student ID to attend a high school athletic competition without a parent or guardian.
- If the visiting team is not a Rock Hill School District school, students from that school must show their school ID and have a ticket in order to be able to attend the event without a parent or guardian.
- Anyone without a school-issued ID, under the age of 18, must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult.
- Middle school students must have an adult accompany them at sporting events. No middle school students will be permitted to stay at games unaccompanied.
- Guests to our events will not be allowed to stand, congregate, or “hang out” in the concourse or around the concession stand areas during the games.
- Any violation of rules may result in removal or being trespassed.
Our safety and security team will continue collaborating with the Rock Hill Police Department and York County Sheriff’s Office to ensure everyone can feel comfortable and safe in our facilities.
Thank you all for your kindness and support.
