STAFF APPRECIATION...
During the week of May 6th-10th, we are celebrating and thanking all of our amazing staff members. Each person who is part of AELC plays a vital role in your child's life, so please take a moment this week to thank them for all they do. An email, hand-written note, etc.. goes a long way to show your thanks. Our Boosters have a week of fun planned for the occasion, huge thanks to them!
SPRING MAP WINDOW...
This month students will be taking their MAP Spring benchmarks. We take the MAP assessments three times a year to gauge your child's progress in reading and math. Specific testing dates will be announced by your child's teacher(s). Once the MAP window is closed in the coming weeks, and all testing is completed, you will receive a report of their results.
In order to prepare for MAP testing, please make sure they have a nutritious breakfast and a good night's sleep. We want to ensure they are in their best form to show how much they have learned throughout the school year :)
KINDERGARTEN TO FIRST GRADE TRANSITION...
We are excited to announce that our kindergartners will be visiting classrooms at Avon East on May 21st to help transition students for next school year. Each class will get the opportunity to visit first grade classrooms to learn all about life in first grade :)

SAVE THE DATE KINDERGARTEN FIELD DAY...
Our Field Day is back!!!! Mr. Jayne is planning for Friday May 24th for our building - details will be shared soon! Boosters will be helping us plan Field Day with volunteers, so please watch for these opportunities!
PREPARATION FOR NEXT YEAR...
Principals K-5 do not accept requests for specific teachers. However, we take such great pride in placing students in collaboration with the other building principals, the current classroom teacher, and the school counselor and school psychologist. It is a very time consuming process and we truly look at each individual child when considering placement for the next grade level. While we do not always get this perfect, we do try our best to place students in the most optimal learning environment with the information we have.
We welcome communication about certain factors we should be aware of in regards to your child, but discourage individual requests.
We appreciate your trust in our team with this very important process that we value so much.

LIBRARY UPDATE FROM MRS. WATKINS...
The fun in the library is wrapping up for this school year! We had fun during Dr. Seuss Week reading “There’s a Wocket in my Pocket”. Later in March and April, we heard The Gingerbread Man and the Leprechaun Loose at School, books about confidence and cooperation in, The Lion Inside and That Fruit is Mine. We ended April with a brand new book about kindness in Lila Greer, Teacher of the Year. The students have continued to enjoy all the makerspace activities and being creative while showing kindness and cooperation with their classmates.
With the last day of school around the corner, it is time to collect all of our books and prepare the library for summer and next school year! Students will check out books for the last time, the week of April 30th. Thank you for your support this year with helping your child(ren) return their books on time!
Stompers Reading Program prize information will be coming out very soon! Information will be sent home by your teacher. Thank you for participating!
Avon Library will launch their Summer Reading Program with a kickoff party on Saturday, June 8th at 4:15 featuring Outback Ray! He will showcase many of his wild animals introducing the “adventure” theme for the program. This is for all ages and will run this summer from June-August. For every 4 squares colored in, participants will be able to choose a prize AND receive an entry in a raffle for larger items at the end of the program. Gameboards are available to pick up at the library.
Keep reading Eagles AND have a wonderful summer!
KINDERGARTEN ART UPDATE FROM MRS. LEE...
Mrs. Lee's art classes (Ferner.Gilcher.Barr.Jaros.Magyary.Kusnerik):
It is hard to believe that this school year is already coming to an end. It always amazes me to see how much Kindergartners grow in one school year. Your children have worked so hard and have come such a long way since the Fall. This past month we focused on our painting skills! How to hold, use and clean a brush properly. And how to paint in the same orientation/direction-just like when coloring. If your child shows interest in painting at home (but you are nervous having paints at your house) a great alternative is to use watercolor paints! The kids still love them, but they are not as messy as tempera paints. I hope everyone has a wonderful, safe and relaxing summer.
KINDERGARTEN MUSIC UPDATE FROM MRS. BRYANT...
Recently, Avon music has been awarded one of NAMM’s best communities in music education. Our music team is honored to have our school recognized. Your kiddos are still little, but it's never too early to get more involved in music making.
This website provides contact information for music teachers and groups in the area. Please reach out if you have any questions:
