WKYC FEATURES "MARY POPPINS" MUSICAL
The Jackson School for the Arts musical production of "Mary Poppins" has caught the eye of at least one Cleveland news station. WKYC came to Jackson High School last week to shoot footage for an upcoming segment (scheduled for Wednesday evening) that highlights the integration of our K-12 students in "Mary Poppins." There are more than 150 students involved in the production of the show, including some of our young performers at the K-5 level. Students from our elementary school have parts in the show.
Additionally, WKYC is focusing on the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) aspect of the production. Students from our engineering classes manufactured one of more than 100 props for the show. They used a 3D printer to fabricate a breakable vase used in the show. Visual arts students painted the vase to make it look real. Physics students learned about pulley systems being used to "fly" JSA actors and actresses on stage during the show.
Check WKYC for more information. Please use the buttons below to order "Mary Poppins" tickets before the shows sell out.

WHAT A WEEK FOR ATHLETICS
It was quite a week for Polar Bear athletes this fall.
Two Jackson girls tennis players — Isha Nagajothi and Ashley Helle — qualified to the state tennis tournament earlier this month.
Last week, the girls volleyball team cruised to a district championship and play in a regional semifinal Thursday vs. Magnificat.
Girls soccer won a district title and plays Walsh Jesuit on Tuesday at St. Vincent-St. Mary in a regional semifinal. Boys soccer won a district championship and will play GlenOak on Thursday in a regional semifinal.
Boys and girls cross country each qualified to the state meet as teams, with senior Eli Ilg winning the regional meet.
Friday night, Jackson football beat rival Hoover in a game attended by more than 5,000 people to bring "The Rail" back to Jackson. The win also propelled the Polar Bears to a top-four finish in the OHSAA computer standings. That means Jackson will host Brunswick Friday at 7 PM at Robert Fife Stadium. A win in week 11 would mean a second home playoff game vs. the winner of the McKinley-Normandy game.

SECURITY INFORMATION
One of the most common Jackson Local School District Emergency Alerts is called a Shelter-in-Place. What is a Shelter-in-Place order and why might a building use one?
A building may use a Shelter-in-Place order for many reasons, including:
- External Threats: There may be a nearby threat such as police activity, a dangerous individual, or a violent incident occurring close to the school, requiring students and staff to stay inside for their safety.
- School-Wide Situations: In the case of an internal issue or disturbance within the school, the administration may call for a shelter-in-place order to control movement and secure the environment.
- Weather Emergencies, Environmental Hazards, and Medical Emergencies.
Generally speaking, a Shelter-in-Place order is the least restrictive of the security alerts. However, a Shelter-in-Place order could be modified if the threat changes.
SMARTSOCIAL LIVE EVENT: DISAPPEARING MESSAGES
Disappearing messages in popular apps can impact students in negative ways including cyberbullying, escalating risky behaviors, and giving them a false sense of security. Do you know which apps have disappearing message features? Do you know the hidden risks?
This live virtual event is your opportunity to understand how and why disappearing messages are popular features for students to use and how you can help them navigate the digital world safely.
What You Will Learn:
- How these features function on popular platforms, like Snapchat and Instagram
- What “disappearing” truly means, and how messages are still potentially recoverable or accessible
- The hidden dangers, such as cyberbullying, impulsive decisions, and the long-term consequences of seemingly temporary interactions
- Hear from students and leading digital citizenship and mental health experts who will share practical strategies to protect and guide your teen’s digital behavior

MARY POPPINS TICKETS ON SALE
Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney Film, Mary Poppins delighted Broadway audiences for over 2,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The jack-of-all-trades, Bert, introduces us to the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family how to value each other again. Mary Poppins not only has a profound effect upon the children of the Banks family, but also Mr. and Mrs. Banks, who, thanks to Mary, realize the truth in the words "anything can happen if you let it." The story of the Banks family will touch the entire family. Mary Poppins is an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers, and astonishing stagecraft that makes it the musical that soars high above the rest

MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES TO HELP
The Jackson Local School District started an initiative this school year to share resources and tips with our parents. We are providing more resources from our district mental health partners. We hope you find value in these resources from our mental health experts.
STARKHELPCENTRAL.COM FROM UNITED WAY
United Way of Greater Stark County is pleased to join the partnership that supports StarkHelpCentral.com, a searchable community resource website supported by Stark County Mental Health & Addiction Recovery (StarkMHAR), Stark County Job & Family Services, Stark Educational Service Center, Stark County Board of Developmental Disabilities and Stark County Family Court, and Stark County Family Council.
With this partnership, Stark County 2-1-1 will close its 2-1-1 information line and online database. This move will establish StarkHelpCentral.com as the primary source of information about community resources in Stark County.
Attached to this email is a brief guide that provides contact information for the most requested programs and services in our community. This resource guide will be direct mailed to residents of ZIP codes where most of 211’s calls originate. This will happen by the end of November.

JACKSON LOCAL SEEKS TO SERVE CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES
Within the intent of the federal statutes (Rehabilitation Act of 1973-section 504 and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act IDEA-public law 105-17), the Jackson Local School District continues its effort to locate and identify children with disabilities from birth through age 21. Children with disabilities have physical, emotional, and or mental impairments that may require special education. Public schools provide free and appropriate education regardless of a child’s disability. However, before these children can be served, they must be found. Many of these children are not visible because they may not function in the community’s mainstream, and many are preschoolers. Parents may not realize that programs and services are available through their school district or from agencies in their community. If you are aware of a child who may need a special education program or services, contact Kathy Brand, Jackson Local School District’s Special Programs Director with any question you may have regarding the above notice at 330-830-8006.
