The Martin Luther King, Jr. Planning Committee is sponsoring an Art Contest centered around the theme, “Marching Forward, United in Justice and Peace.” We encourage participation from students in elementary, middle, and high schools.

Artwork will be judged on the following criteria:

1. Best representation or interpretation of the theme

2. Originality of Content/ Level of Creativity

3. Quality of the artistic skills demonstrated

4. Artwork should be displayed on computer paper, art paper, cardboard, or poster board.

5. Place your name, school, and grade level (legibly) on back of the artwork.

Entries must be dropped off at the McIver & Graham Law Firm on Hwy 378 or ready for pick-up by Wednesday, January 15, 2025. Artwork will be on display for judging on Saturday, January 18, 2026, at the Conway Recreation Center, located off Mill Pond Road in Conway. Monetary awards will be given to winners and certificates to all participants in each of the three school levels. Four (4) winners will be selected from each school division and placed in a MLK 2025-2026 Calendar. Winners will be notified prior to the MLK program. We ask that all participants attend the MLK program (Monday, January 20, 2025; Bethel A.M.E, Church; 1530 Racepath Avenue, Conway, SC 29526) to receive recognition for their involvements. The Forestbrook Gator Wrestling Team traveled to Aynor High School today to compete in the Area 7 Carolina Invitational Regional Qualifier. Middle School programs from 7 different area counties participated in the event.

28 Gators were registered and wrestled in the tournament. In order to qualify and advance to the next tournament, wrestlers had to finish in the top 5 of their weight class.

10 wrestlers from Forestbrook finished in the top 5. They are:

Isaac Barrios 1st place 126 pounds

Tristan Washko 2nd place 114 pounds

Will Smith 3rd place 80 pounds

Austin Warren 3rd place 96 pounds

Graham Frechette 3rd place 102 pounds

Miller Locklear 3rd place 120 pounds

Urijah Turner 4th place 88 pounds

Ethan Scott 4th place 108 pounds

Kasyn Peters 4th place 135 pounds

Alex Eaddy 5th place 158 pounds

These 10 wrestlers will now travel to Summerville High School this Saturday to compete in the Coastal Sectional. Each one will be in a 15 man bracket where they will face the top 5 qualifiers from Area 8 (Charleston and Berkeley Counties) and Area 9 (Dorchester, Colleton and Beaufort Counties). They must finish top 4 in this tournament to advance to the Middle School State Championship the following weekend.

In addition to these 10 wrestlers qualifying, Forerstbrook also took 3rd place overall as a team in team points.

WE ARE SO PROUD OF THESE ATHLETES!! And we wish them luck as they move forward!

Parents of 8th grade students:

Beginning in 8th grade, all South Carolina high school students are required to complete an annual IGP (Individual Graduation Plan) with their school counselor. My name is Greta Pratt and I have joined the Gator’s school counseling team this year and look forward to having the opportunity to meet with you and your student.

Immunizations: The Tdap vaccine is required for all 7th grade students per the SC Department of Public Health. If your child is enrolling at Forestbrook Middle School from another state or country, please contact the Myrtle Beach Health Department or your child's local pediatrician to validate their current vaccine record and to obtain a South Carolina Certificate of Immunization. A South Carolina certificate must be submitted within 30 days of their enrollment date. Students who are missing vaccines will have 30 days to obtain the required vaccine(s) to remain in school.

STUDENTS WHO HAVE PAID THEIR $25 TECHNOLOGY FEE are allowed to take their laptop home with them. If you have not yet paid the technology fee for the 24-25 school year, the fee can be paid in person in the front office or money can be sent in with your student.

All students in Horry County Schools will receive free breakfast and lunch during the 2024-2025 school year as part of the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program.

Students will still have the option to purchase additional meals, food & snack items, and beverages at à la carte prices. À la carte items can be paid for in cash or by prepayment on the student’s cafeteria account. Charging for à la carte sales is not allowed. Prepayments can be made by cash or check at your child’s school cafeteria or with a debit card by setting up an account at myschoolbucks.com. Any charges remaining on a student’s cafeteria account from a prior school year are still the parent’s responsibility. If needed, payment arrangements for larger balances can be made by contacting the school cafeteria manager.
