October is National Bullying Prevention Month!
A message from our Counselor, Ms. London:
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. We will be focusing on Anti-Bullying education
and messaging in our school. The purpose of this is to bring awareness of, and attention to, the
bullying that exists in schools across our nation.
We will be doing this through various activities such as social emotional learning lessons,
Anti-Bullying Spirit Week, Blue Shirt Day (October 7, 2024) and UNITY Day (October 16, 2024)
by wearing ORANGE and other activities that will strengthen student’s understanding of why it
is important to be an upstander, not a bystander, and that when they see something, they
should say something!
BIKE TO SCHOOL with your FOX FRIENDS on Oct. 10th
Kindergarten Students to take the VKRP Sept. 16- Oct. 4
Kindergarten students will participate in the Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program (VKRP). The Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program (VKRP) aims to build a more comprehensive understanding of school readiness. As an assessment system, VKRP adds measures of mathematics, self-regulation, and social skills in Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten to complement Virginia’s statewide assessment of literacy skills (VALLS: Pre-K and PALS-K). Kindergarten Students participate in the VKRP in the Fall and again in the Spring.
Lost and Found- Label your students sweatshirts/jackets!
As we move into Fall, it is starting to be chillier in the mornings; and frankly, it is often cold in the building. Many students bring jackets/sweatshirts to wear. PLEASE label your child's sweatshirts and coats. This helps us to return them to the owner. We are starting to get a lot of items in the Lost and Found. If your child is missing something, have them look in the Lost and Found (it is outside the clinic/cafeteria) or you can sign into the office and check yourself!
Middle School Night for 5th Grade Students-October 22
New this year, we will be hosting a regional Middle School Night for all of the Elementary schools that feed into Albert Hill Middle and Dogwood Middle. If you have a 5th grader, please plan on attending so you can be informed of your middle school options. ALL are of course welcome!
