Objective: Students will participate in a unique version of a thumb war.

Group Size: Any

Time: 3-5 minutes

Directions:

1. Ask your students to stand in a circle and number off, one and two alternating. Say, "Stay standing in the circle."
2. Say, "One's should cross their arms at the chest, and two's should open their arms up with bent elbows."
3. Continue, "One's should hook hands with two's. Everyone should keep their thumbs up."
4. "We'll battle to the right first. One, two, three, four, I declare a thumb war! Battle to your right! Five, six, seven, eight, try to keep your thumb straight!"
5. Then, continue by saying, "Now, let's battle to the left. One, two, three, four, I declare a thumb war! Battle to your left! Five, six, seven, eight, try to keep your thumb straight!"
6. Have one's and two's switch arm positions and go again. Make this fun!

Processing Questions:

1. "Did anything feel unfair about this activity? What can we do when things are unfair?"
2. "Are you always going to win? How can you lose respectfully?"
3. Say, "Whether it's a thumb war, a math test, or a tryout for a solo, always do your best! Win and lose respectfully."

April is designated as the Month of the Military Child, underscoring the important role military children play in the armed forces community. Sponsored by the Department of Defense Military Community and Family Policy, the Month of the Military Child is a time to applaud military families and their children for the daily sacrifices and the challenges they overcome.

DoDEA joins the Department of Defense and the military community in celebrating April as the Month of the Military Child. In DoDEA communities worldwide, our most essential strategic imperatives are establishing an educational system that progressively builds the college and career readiness of all DoDEA students and establishing the organizational capacity to operate more effectively and efficiently as a model, unified school system. We aim to challenge each student to maximize their potential and excel academically, socially, emotionally and physically for life, college and career readiness.

Throughout the month, DoDEA will encourage schools to plan special events to honor military children and have administrators and principals incorporate this month's themes into their everyday duties and responsibilities. These efforts and special events will stress the importance of providing children with quality services and support to help them succeed in the mobile military lifestyle.

• Long Jump – 23’7” (PR!)

• High Jump – 1st Place!

He’s officially headed to Regionals and is chasing that ticket to STATE once again!

Timothy Boatner was repping Killeen High School with speed and style. Timothy took 1st place in the 110m hurdles with a PR and locked in 3rd place in the 300m hurdles—another PR!
