Class of 2024 Scholarships & Awards
On Wednesday, April 24, the San Marcos High School Class of 2024 celebrated their achievements and received a total of $170,000 in local scholarships. Thank you to our community partners for your generous and ongoing support for our Rattlers as they pursue higher education, military or workforce pathways, post-grad. Congratulations to Michelle Rodriguez and Walter Navarro for their Superintendent Award of Excellence recognitions.
Super Seniors
Our Rattlers wrapped up Senior Night with an 8-2 win over Converse Judson, making the 2024 senior class the most winningest class in program history with 90 wins during their four years on the diamond!
Match Day
UIL Regional Rattlers
Our San Marcos High School Academic UIL Rattlers had quite a presence at this year’s UIL regional competition at the University of Texas at San Antonio on Saturday, April 27, including one student who advanced to the UIL State Meet in Literary Criticism!
Congratulations to Brynn Gardner who placed 2nd in Literary Criticism and advanced to state! In the science competition, Benjamin Keller placed 14th overall. In Math, Keller placed 8th; Phone Kant finished in 32nd, followed by Olivia Bley in 38th, and Youssef Omar in 40th. The math team finished 7th overall. Alongside Gardner, Ruby Wilsford placed 8th in Literary Criticism; Kaila Adams finished in 18th; and Brisha Canahuat came in 22nd. Overall, our academic teams finished 27th overall out of 59 schools. We’re so proud of our Rattlers for their academic success!
ACL Field Day
SMHS students enrolled in the Education & Teaching and Kinesiology CTE courses organized the inaugural Field Day games for their peers in ACL on Tuesday, April 23. Together, students were able to compete in obstacle courses, frisbee challenges, team-building exercises and even water games! Shoutout to Jennifer Hargraves, Megan Bading and Emily Buchtien for your collaboration between programs!
Young Leaders Graduation
Congratulations to 10 San Marcos High School seniors who completed the San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce's San Marcos Youth Leadership program: Mireya Acosta, Ysabel Castillo, Rowan Cockrell, Eliana Hurtado, Dominic LeMar, Brianna Martinez, Ashary Navarro Cante, Walter Navarro, Adetilewa Saliuokeola, and Alexandra Vazquez. The San Marcos Youth Leadership program aims to foster and encourage students to participate as leaders in their schools and communities. Our seniors celebrated their accomplishment during a graduation ceremony on Tuesday, April 23, where they heard a keynote speech from Texas State University President Dr. Kelly Damphousse. Students also shared what they learned from the program, and how it's helped them grow as leaders.
Striker Carnival
The Mendez Strikers hosted their Spring Literacy family night in carnival fashion. Students and their families were able to create arts anf crafts inspired by their favorite book characters, design their own reading night light, meet real-life mermaids, grow their at-home libraries and enjoy fan-favorite carnival treats! Thank you to the community partners that helped make this event possible as Mendez also welcomed the new Kindergarten Strikers for Kinder round-up!
A Bear-ry New Beginning
A new pack of Bonham Bears is gearing up for the 2024-2025 academic year! Bonham Pre-Kindergarten hosted registration events for the upcoming school year. We're excited to welcome our new Bears to school!
Sparking Passions
Our Hernandez Heroes shared their passions during their SPARK Fair on Thursday, April 25. The evening featured students showcasing their passion projects, which ranged from cooking, painting, softball, and much more. The fair also included a performance by the Hernandez Dance Club! Way to show off your passions, Heroes!
Kinder Round Up
SMCISD's elementary campuses hosted a kinder round up on Thursday, April 25. Parents and students were able to visit their future campus to learn about registration, medical requirements, child nutrition, after-school programs, and see inside our classrooms!
Sweet Multiplication
Crockett Elementary 3rd graders earned a sweet treat for learning multiplication facts on Thursday, April 25. Our Superstars have been working hard to learn to multiply up to 12 throughout this school year, receiving a part of their sundae for every group of numbers they learned how to multiply by. Congrats to our students for their academic success!
Field Day Champions
Our Bowie 4th grade classes competed against each other during their Field Day on Thursday, April 25. Our Champions faced off in relay races, individual running events, sack races, softball and discuss throwing competitions and tug-of-war.
Solo & Ensemble Success
Congratulations to 25 Goodnight Band members who received superior ratings at their Solo & Ensemble Contest on Saturday, April 20. We're proud of our Rattlers: Aaron Williams, Jonah Garcia, Weston Kolodziejcyk, Harrison Hopkins, Dorian Miller, Asher Prangnell, Matthew Facundo, Jon Nava, Jaiven DeLeon, Luke Pactanac, Robert Moore, Oliver DuBois, Danzig Quinn, Draven Sandoval, Leonardo Hernandez , Roberto Chapa, Isaiah Sanchez, Cooper Hopkins, Yessenia Banegas, Noah Rodriguez, Aaron Villarreal, Troy Ornelas, Alyvia Castanon, Aidan Duran and Logan Palomares!
FFA Competes At State
The SMHS FFA Entomology team competed at the State Career Development Events (CDE) Contest at Texas Tech University in Lubbock on Saturday, April 20. Rice Tipps was our highest individual scorer, and placed 2nd overall. Our team placed 27th in the state. Congratulations to our Rattlers!

Mindset Mission
Ned's Mindset Mission assembly visited our Travis Texans to inspire them to never give up, encourage others and do their best through a fun and interactive show featuring yo-yo and magic tricks on Monday, April 22.
Baking Together
Our Mendez Elementary Cooking Club and SMHS Culinary Arts students teamed up to make cinnamon rolls on Friday, April 19. Thank you to our SMHS Culinary Arts Program for welcoming these young bakers into the kitchen for a fun, hands-on experience!
FAME-ous Dancing Stars
The Goodnight Dancing Stars, dance classes and special guests debuted their spring show, “Fame,” on Wednesday, April 17. Our outstanding performers put on an encore on Friday, April 19. Congratulations to our Dancing Stars for two wonderful nights of shows!
Library Learning
Bowie kindergartners took a field trip to the San Marcos Public Library on Wednesday, April 17. Our Champions enjoyed a puppet show, toured the library, and checked out books with their new library cards during their visit!
SMCISD Shoutout – Transportation, Maintenance & Safety
Mendez Elementary celebrated our San Marcos CISD transportation, maintenance, and safety employees with an appreciation breakfast on Wednesday, April 24. A delicious pancake meal and thank you cards from our kindergarten Strikers highlighted the annual event.
