Happy New Year!
We hope you had a wonderful winter break and were able to spend some time with loved ones over the holiday. We are excited to welcome our 6th and 7th graders back to school tomorrow and are looking forward to a strong finish for 1st semester classes.
As we look ahead to 2025, we continue to be so fortunate and proud to work alongside such a talented staff at the Middle School. Their dedication to provide incredible academic, social and enrichment opportunities for our students is remarkable; and although there are countless “highlights” that occur in our building each day, we wanted to share just a few from our school year so far!
Enjoy some 1st Semester Highlights! And please don’t ever hesitate to contact us if you ever have any questions or concerns.

In September
Our 6th grade science classes made their annual fall trek to the Eau Claire River to study and apply their learning in hands-on fashion! This trip is always a favorite among our students!
Our Phy Ed students completed a bike unit where they not only learned how to ride a bike (a first for many!) but how to use the correct hand signals and proper road etiquette.
In October
Our 7th grade FACE students prepared for and participated in job interviews. As part of the FACE curriculum, students identified a profession they are interested in, and then worked to prepare for an interview for that job. Interviews were conducted by middle school staff members, many of whom were impressed with the communication and conversation skills of our students.
Mountain Bay Metro hosted their Monster Bash at the Middle School at the end of October and it was a huge success! We welcomed well over 1000 members of the community and countless district families!
We ended the month with our first Middle School Fun Night hosted by Student Council. Students wore their costumes and had a blast! Student Council planned a haunted house and scavenger hunt, had board games available and hired a DJ! Watch for our Winter Fun Night/Dance coming up Friday, March 7th.

We celebrated Veterans Day by welcoming over 30 veterans to our Lunch with Heroes. Students were asked to invite any family member or friend who served or is currently serving in the military to join them for a school lunch. The theme was “You served us, now let us serve you!”
Many of our students were able to attend "A Christmas Carol The Musical" at the Senior High for a matinee performance put on specifically for DC Everest students. It was so neat to see a few of our 6th and 7th graders on stage as part of the cast and crew, and wonderful to see so many of our middle schoolers experience and enjoy a theater performance!

- Our middle school music classes were proud to perform and show off all of their hard work for the first time this year! It is always amazing how far our students come in terms of learning an instrument (many for the first time ever!), singing in harmony and stage etiquette. There were lots of proud smiles among the performers and audience alike!
Looking Ahead
With the new year, we are already thinking about the 2025-2026 school year. A few things to look for….
Scheduling for 2025-2026 Timeline
5th Grade Parent Meetings - January 23rd and January 28th 6-7pm in the Village Theater @ the MS.
6th Grade Scheduling Meetings for 25-26 School Year - Students will have a few more course options than they did when they registered for 6th grade. Our School Counselors will meet with all 6th grade students during the school day on either February 4th or 6th to explain their course offerings and the scheduling process/timeline.
7th Grade Scheduling Meeting for 25-26 School Year - Our Junior High School Counselors are scheduled to come to the Middle School during the school day to discuss the transition from the Middle School to the Junior High and talk about course offerings and the scheduling process/timeline on Monday, February 3rd.
Inclement Weather
Inclement Weather
As we continue into the winter season, we would like to remind you of the snow day procedures we have in place in the event of inclement weather. The D.C. Everest School District allotted two “built in” snow days for the 2024-25 school year. In the event we use both of those days, the third snow day will be made up by having students attend class on Friday, June 6, 2025. If we exceed three snow days, and students cannot attend school in person due to inclement weather, students will learn from home. A summary of these plans is included below. Additional details would be shared by your student(s)’ teacher(s) in the event we exceed three snow days.
DCE Middle School, Junior High and Senior High
Teachers will post the day's lesson plan to their Canvas page by 9:00 a.m.
Teachers will be available via WebEx during listed open office hours that will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Students are encouraged to meet with their teacher virtually to ask questions and get support.
If a teacher's identified office hours do not work for a student, students should send a request to their teacher to meet virtually at another time.
Attendance will be taken based on completion of assigned tasks. If a student is unable to complete assigned work due to extenuating circumstances, the student should inform their teacher upon returning to school.

Winter Recess - WHAT TO WEAR?
Students will be expected to go outside for recess after the completion of their lunch time. Students need to be responsible for making sure they bring with them to lunch and wear appropriate clothing for going outside each day.
Clothing recommendations:
20-40 degrees (w/wind chill) =COAT or SWEATSHIRT, SHORTS are not recommended
(UNTIL TEMPS ARE ABOVE 32 DEGREES)
0-20 degrees (w/wind chill) =COAT.
If the temperature is below zero, students will remain indoors.
Health Room Procedures
Students in need of any medical care should report to the health room with permission of a staff member. The health assistant, with input from the student, will determine if a parent/guardian will be contacted or should pick the student up from school, depending on the illness of the student. Students who feel they need to go home due to an illness must allow the health assistant to make initial contact with the parent.
A student should not make initial contact with a parent to be picked up from school for medical reasons.
This includes texting home. This practice ensures quality medical care for our students and accurate attendance of all our students.
Please contact the Middle School Health Office at 715.241.9700 extension 2023 if you have further questions or concerns.
