LESTER PARK FAMILY SCIENCE NIGHT - TONIGHT!
The PTA is having their annual Family Science Night tonight/Thursday! This is a FREE event that will run from 6-7:30pm on Thursday, March 6.
Be curious with local vendors and colleges! Lake Superior Zoo, Great Lakes Aquarium, Lake Superior Estuarium, several departments from UMD and MORE! Come explore all the fun happening in the school cafeteria & gym!
Let's Raise Another Ton!
The 18th Annual Lester Park March Food Drive will run through March 28 at our school. We are collecting non-perishable food for the Union Gospel Mission in Duluth. Food items expired up to 1 year are now accepted.
Please note that we can no longer accept cash donations. We can only accept non-perishable food.
Each class will reward 2 students on Fridays with "Papa Murphy's Mini Murph Pizza Kit" certificate. All classes will have a popsicle celebration later in May provided by the Lester Park School Foundation to show our appreciation of their efforts.
Additionally, the top 3 classes with the most weight of food will receive a special celebration! 1st place class gets to choose between our three options, then 2nd place class will choose. Sammy's Lakeside is donating pizza again, Cub is donating doughnuts, and the Scoop on 47th is also donating a treat.
Last year we collected 2,511 pounds (1.26 tons) of food! The Union Gospel Mission was so grateful!
HELP US REACH OUR GOAL OF ONE TON (OR MORE) OF FOOD FOR THE UNION GOSPEL MISSION.
Thank you ~ Lester Park School

Charlie Making a Difference in our Community!
Did you know more than 63,900 neighbors, including 1 in 6 children, are experiencing hunger in our community? Lester Park 4th grader, Charlie Benson, has seen this first hand as an active volunteer at Second Harvest Northland for the past 2.5 years.
"It's worth spending your time at the food bank, it helps out a lot of people." says Charlie. Charlie was recently at the grand opening of Second Harvest's new facility where they'll be able to increase food rescue and meal distribution in our community.
If you and your kiddos are interested in getting involved, visit https://secondharvestnorthland.org/get-involved/volunteer for more details.
Some of our Lester Park students won 1st Place at the Basketball State Championship a couple of weeks ago.
Congratulations to these talented kids!!
"Go Green" Day - Lunch Help Needed
Go Green Day is Thursday 3/13/24. The PTA Wellness Council is looking for volunteers to help pass out smoothies during lunchtimes.
Please click HERE to see the time slots and if you want to volunteer. NOTE: 5th graders will be off campus so there is no sign up for them!
Similar to any other volunteer event/field trip, volunteers will need complete a mini background check. You can find the online form HERE.
We will be playing "Go Green" BINGO again this year. The BINGO cards will go home with students on March 13. More on this next week.
Rock Your Socks Day - March 21
Celebrate World Down Syndrome Day!
Every year on March 21, people all around the world come together to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by wearing brightly colored, mismatched socks. March 21 is symbolic because people with Down Syndrome have 3 copies of their 21st chromosome. Socks were chosen because the karyotype of Ds chromosomes actually looks like mismatched socks! You can see an example HERE.
So Let’s celebrate our differences Friday, March 21 by wearing crazy socks!
Lester SPIRIT WEAR store is still OPEN!

We are trying something new. We have lots of information in our school newsletters and provide past links, but sometimes it can be hard to remember which newsletter a topic was discussed. We now have this: Current/Past Newsletters & their Table of Contents
We will keep a link of this on our website and in each school newsletter.
